Theater offers “women only” screenings of Wonder Woman, cue male tears

An Austin movie theater has offered women-only screenings of the upcoming film Wonder Woman, and some men are freaking out. Because god forbid something isn’t about a man for one freaking minute.

The Alamo Drafthouse announced two female-only showings of Wonder Woman this week. “The most iconic superheroine in comic book history finally has her own movie, and what better way to celebrate than with an all-female screening,” a post announcing the shows on their website reads. “Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying ‘No Guys Allowed’ for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say ‘People Who Identify As Women Only,’ we mean it. Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.”

Because men are so underrepresented in superhero films and men are constantly being marginalized, abused, and under-appreciated — male heroes flocked to the Facebook post that announced the shows, to restore balance in the universe and let it be known that the honorable men of the world will not take this sitting down. How dare women get something we don’t have/haven’t been able to ruin. Waaaahhhhhhh! Waaaaaahhhh!

Let’s just repeat for a minute that this is merely two shows. It’s not like the theater is saying “NO MEN ALLOWED IN TO SEE WONDER WOMAN, EVER.”

Whoever runs the theater’s Facebook page is the real MVP. They had fun responding to some of the complaints.

The Alamo Drafthouse NYC is offering female-only showings, too. They took to Twitter to respond to complaints.

Diana (Wonder Woman) was the first child born on Paradise Island — an island solely inhabited by female Amazons who came to be when the Greek goddesses drew forth the souls of all women who had been murdered by men, and placed them on the island. Diana is the reincarnation of the soul of the unborn daughter of the first woman ever to be murdered by a man.

“Diana grew up surrounded by a legion of sisters and mothers.”

Back off, dudes. There will be female-only Wonder Woman screenings and you can’t stop them so shut your damn mouth-holes and let us enjoy the origin story of the most bad-ass, estrogen-filled superhero, ever — surrounded by a bunch of other women, the way Wonder Woman would’ve intended.
