I used many words to describe BlogHer last year: Overwhelming, intense, exhausting. I was glad I went, but didn’t really love it. At all. This year was entirely different. The words that come to mind are fantastic, inspiring, fun, wonderful. To name a few.

I loved meeting up with some of my favorite people from last year…

@scarymommy @angryjulie @carabee @napwarden @complicatedmama @scarymommy

@rockdrool and @scarymommy @OHmommy and @scarymommy

and meeting so many for the first time.

@alexistlesa @scarymommy @secretagentmama and @scarymommy @scarymommy @MyMessyParadise

I loved escaping conference food for pizza instead,

This is a lot of people

and finding my Maryland girls.

@JessicaAPISS and @ScaryMommy @scarymommy @elliebelliekids @mammamania and @scarymommy

I loved seeing people I’d met up with over the last year,

@MrsLoulou @scarymommy @jodifer @looneytunes @scarymommy

and reconnecting with an old friend.

@Domesti_Chick and @scarymommy

I loved bonding with my co-speakers backstage at the keynote,

@MarinkaNYC @scarymommy @theBitchinWife

and realizing that I can, indeed, speak in front of 2400 people.

Voices of the Year

I loved it all.

And I cannot wait until next year.

I think I should read more post BlogHer posts. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll make me feel like coming back. I’m glad to hear your first experience was less than stellar, but that this year was an entirely differently experience. Do you think that’s because you came with different expectations? The thing is, I should have listened more to the pre-BlogHer posts and re-thought my approach and reason for attending. I was sadly disappointed on so many levels.

Your photos are goregous, and I’m delighted to see a few special friends among them!

Oh, no!! I hope you’ll try it again. Last year, my expectations were high- I naively thought tons of people would know who I was and everyone would be just as awesome as wanted them to be. They didn’t and they weren’t. I had a tough time writing a wrap up post last year because I just didn’t have much positive to say. I think it’s really hard to know what to expect the first year- it’s pretty nutty!

Yay! Was lovely lovely LOVELY to see you as well. And to meet so many of the wonderful women in these photos… (one of them is my roomie!)

Christine, you definitely need to reconsider next year. I need my Canadians with me… after this trip, I’ve seen you girls are indispensable! :)

Hey – that’s me!!!
I’m glad you had such a great time, and meeting you was was of the highlights this year!
This experience, for me, was all about the people. The truly great people and friends that I finally got to hug and sit with for coffee or dinner. Finally, all in one place!!

Jill, you are so darn photogenic. I’d hate you if I didn’t love you so much! ;)

It was incredibly fabulous to see everyone! You’re so right—it really is about the people and coming together. I had such an amazing time (although I look like I’m barely smiling in my photo – what’s up with that?!).

I will say blogher can be overwhelming *but* for those planning on heading to San Diego next year (for the first time), make sure you take time away from it all to have dinner with friends, decompress and find your peeps. At least, it worked for me.

It was so great to finally meet you! Wish we had more time to talk…but I read MANY pre-BlogHer posts and I am so glad I did because I went into this thing without ANY expectations.

My mom always said, “Expect nothing and you shall never be disappointed.” I stuck with that thought the entire time and I think it really helped. I went into this knowing it was going to be insane and just focused on trying to meet the peeps I already planned to meet beforehand. And in doing so, THAT was the highlight of this trip for me – the people and the face-to-face connections.

Cannot wait to see you in Philly – and I look forward to that conference, a much smaller setting and hopefully we can talk more. :)

Glad to read you had such a great experience this year. I would be disappointed if you didn’t.

I tried to focus on the positive, fully realizing that as newbie my first BlogHer would be overwhelming and that not every writer was going to translate well in person.

I have to admit it did sting a bit when I felt someone was blowing me off or treating me like a “fan” bc I’m not a bigger name blogger (and believe me, there were plenty of those). But it was another fantastic learning experience and those posers know that I know that they know that I know :) And, there’s always next year.

Are you going to BBPhilly?

i really wish we’d been able to talk more, but i didn’t want to keep you away from your adoring fans for too long–i felt like i was being selfish. at least we got to share a cab ride and a walk around the block with julie.

this was my first year, and i actually had a lot of fun, but i think it was because i was totally happy just hanging out, and i didn’t expect the sessions to be anything (and most of them weren’t). i loved your design speech, though. i need to hire someone like you to make a custom logo for me–maybe a giant or something.

I am glad you had a great time at BlogHer! I am sorry I missed the opportunity to meet you in person. I met up with a group of women whom I have come to know and love online and that alone was well worth everything. I did meet a few bloggers who showed me random acts of kindness by taking the first step to dance with me when I was dancing alone (mostly b/c I was drunk… really). I can’t remember who they are, and I really want to thank them. One of them told me as she came to dance by my side, “Well, they say you have to take risk and reach out to a stranger”. I was so moved and impressed. As she led me back to her group of friends, I made the stupid decision of going to retrieve my card so she could have my name (since I was so drunk I knew I’d be slurring. And really, I cannot say my twitter handle without laughing and my URL is a mouthful too…). I came back and stuffed my biz card in her bra. I know I know. By then I’ve had maybe 9 vodka already? I saw the expression on her face, she looked startled. So I thought, “Shit! I am such an idiot! Now I am behaving like an aging dirty hooker!” so I ran away.

Anyway, if any of you reached out to a stranger when she was alone, you should be really proud of yourself because you made someone’s memory at BlogHer that much brighter.

It’s Wednesday 2 am. I am no longer drunk. I think.
