Awww, great post Nicole. Sorry you didn’t have what your girls have when you were growing up. I’m glad that you have found such balance and that you have such great taste in shoes to pass along to those cute girls of yours.

There are days when balance is elusive, but if you make the commitment to pursue the things that you love you can do it. I work really hard to stay “myself” and commit time to things that I love because I think that makes me a better mother. If I were to lose myself in motherhood, never to work towards my own interests or goals at all, then I would not be a good mother. With that being said, if there’s a day where I have to choose between my interest and meeting the needs of my child, that need trumps my desires to work on my personal interests. Usually I can find a nice balance between it all. :-)

I totally agree! It does come naturally…..most of the time ;-) Then there are the days when I just want to drink my coffee in beautiful silence and pretend I’m “off duty”. Needless to say, I live for nap time on those days.

It definitely is a choice to commit to your kids. For me it’s a naturally, easy choice. :-)

It seems to me that people are trying very hard to convice me that once I have my kids, I ll no longer would have my passion for cooking and making meals would be a chore.

They say I ll no longer have personal goals and dreams …

I like that you say things will change, but still keep an optimistic view on parenting. Your are blessed and I’m glad you re grateful.

You don’t need anyone to wish you luck – it sound like you’ve had it right from the start! I never thought I could give up my selfish 20-something tendencies to be a good mom and I’m still shocked by how naturally it just happens – and without a fight.

What a wonderful post. We all make choices in life. Your kids are starting off in life knowing what unconditional love is. And one day they pattern their own choices as parents after how they were raised.

I definitely think children bring a whole new element to the idea of love that can’t be understood without them. But, I also think some people weren’t built to nurture children and sacrifice for them as we have to on a daily basis. Putting your children first isn’t innate to all. Which is why I think my parents failed in that endeavor. :-) Thanks for saying hello!

I was a pretty good kid, but I too never understood what worry was until I had them myself. I look forward to the day when they will understand. Until then, I’ll have to be comfortable in my resolve. :-)
