“I just can’t believe how very grown up I look now!!”

– Lily, upon getting her ears pierced.

Me, neither, my baby. Me neither.

(And, for the record, I had to wait until I was 13 to pierce mine. Lucky girl.)

Jill! She is SO SO SO gorgeous! Seriously! I haven’t thought about when my girls will get their ears pierced. If it’s up to Bryan it would be like 16 or something absurd. I had to wait until 13 too, by the way. Total side note and not about this post, but I’m so excited for you that you sent your manuscript to the editor. So major!!!!

So pretty! And yes, they age her ;)

I was 13 as well. Each sister after me got them earlier–my youngest got them when she was 7 or 8. Hmph.

Way to be the cool mom ;) I think my daughter was 8 and when she graduated from 8th grade, she got her ears pierced a 2nd time (it was not allowed in her private school @@ wtf ever). I offered to let her get her nose or eyebrow pierced (I do have my nose pierced) but she declined.

LOL I think I earned cool points because I told her she could dye her hair purple (just the ends–her choice) in order to match her homecoming dress. But again, I dye my hair–and am about to really go wild w/ color–so it’s not one of those “battle points” you know?

I had the girls’ pierced while they were infants. It didn’t occur to me until years later that I should have waited until they chose to have them pierced or not. Neither regrets the decision, but I kind of regret having made it for each. (As the 10 yr old is now requesting a 2nd hole. Um, no).

My daughters had theirs done at age 4 & 6 for their bday….they asked to have it done…(their bdays were only 2 weeks apart)…that was the perfect age for them I believe…I didnt get mine done until I was 10…both my girls LOVE switching their earrings to match different outfits! Its so cute! Im glad I didnt do it when they were babies, cause I would have missed the excitement of going to have it done with them! :)

And I am so not ready for my kids to grow up. But I am ready to get my daughter’s ears pierced again. I got them done when she was 6 months old but she yanked them out so many times I had to let them close. Now she’s almost 3 and I think she’s ready. I was 4 when I got mine pierced, and 9 when I got second holes (then I kept getting one more hole a year until I was 16).

Apologies I don’t know how old your daughter is and my comment is by no means a judgement on anyone else but I just don’t see why little girls need to get there ear’s pierced. I can’t think of one good reason why a baby needs earrings. I think around 10 is probably around the right age. Mine where done when I was around 7 or 8 but they go infected and I hated them. I didn’t really want them as I wasn’t very girly but I wanted to fit in and my friends and older sister had them. I like wearing earrings now but I think I would have been better off waiting until I was older.

I won’t let my daughter get hers done until she’s at least 10 and is totally sure she wants them. Call me a mean mummy but getting your ears pierced should be a right of passage in the growing up process so I want her to really earn it. I’d prefer her to get it done in conjunction with some other big milestone like a major birthday or starting high school.

Well I`m embarassed to say that when I had mine done (I think 14yrs or so?), I threw this un-Godly fit in the middle of the mall because I was terrified to get them done. I thought it would hurt a lot and a “gun” near my head…. I`m fine with them now but I really do wish that mom and dad had either had mine done as an infant or not at all. Now days I don`t usually wear any. If I had a daughter, I`d have them done as an infant and if later she didn`t want them anymore, then she wouldn`t have to wear any if she didn`t want to….

A cautionary word: my daughter had her ears pierced and we waited the alloted time period before we took them out, but we had such trouble re-inserting the new earrings! Her pierced ears seemed to close in just a couple of hours. Wait as long as you can before you take those starter earrings out of Lily’s ears!! :)

She is adorable! I got my first at 5 but had to wait until I was 13 for my 2nd holes. ..and then we hid them from my dad for almost a year as he did not approve yet my mother did. Naughty. When I was 17, my boyfriend and I pierced our ears one night and shared a pair of earrings for the one hole we put in our left ears. Classy. I know. ;)

She is beautiful! My older daughter had her ear pierced at 10. It was all I heard about….when, when, when? Finally, we did it. She bought 700 pairs of earrings, and now, strangely, at 13, she doesn’t wear earrings at all. Her holes are closing up and she doesn’t care. After all that?! She does have a mass of thick long hair (like me and I don’t wear earrings, either), so I am thinking maybe that is why. No one can really see them.
