Celebrity baby names are always an interesting topic and 2015 certainly didn’t disappoint. Celebrities have a freedom that most of us Normals do not. Their children are born into a life of privilege so there aren’t the typical concerns of selecting a name that will help them succeed in a future career. They can pretty much do what they want knowing their kids will probably lead a lush life whether their name sounds like they could be the next president or not. This results in some rather different names we don’t usually see in real-life and the famous babies of 2015 are no exception.

1. Saint West

What would a celebrity baby name discussion be without a nod to the king and queen of interesting baby names, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian? The couple welcomed their son with much fanfare earlier this month and revealed his decidedly different name shortly after—Saint West. He joins sister North, and mostly, we’re just glad his name isn’t South. Although Saint definitely leaves us wondering exactly what Kim and Kanye were going for with this moniker.

2. Jagger Snow Ross

Ashlee Simpson, sister of pop-star and fashion mogul Jessica Simpson, welcomed her second child this year with husband, Evan Ross, son of legend Diana Ross. Simpson is no stranger to unusual baby names having gone with Bronx Mowgli for her first child with ex-husband Pete Wentz and it was no different the second time around. Ashlee and Evan announced the birth of daughter Jagger Snow in July.

3. Elsie Otter Pechenik

Zooey Deschanel gave birth to her first child earlier this year and the name she and husband Jacob Pechenik chose is every bit as unique as you’d expect from the actress who’s made a career out of being adorably quirky. The couple went with Elsie Otter for their little girl, and in explaining the name choice, Deschanel told the Today show, “We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters, they’re very sweet and they’re also smart. They use tools…they hold hands while they sleep, there’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals.” Hey, you do you, Zooey. And you have to admit—it is pretty cute.

4. James Reynolds

The news came out last week that little James Reynolds, daughter of impossibly perfect duo Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, just turned a year old. Up until then, her actual birth-date was unknown, so although it’s technically 2014, we had to include this surprising baby name in our 2015 list. Though far from the most unusual celebrity baby name, it’s certainly not a conventional choice for a baby girl. In explaining the reason for the name, Lively told Good Morning America, “It’s a family name, and I liked having a boy’s name.” What a sweet mother-daughter bond for them to have.

5. Josey Hollis Dorsey

Glee star Naya Rivera and husband Ryan Dorsey announced the birth of their little guy in September and shared his name shortly after. Josey Hollis is a bit different for a boy and goes along with the recent trend of ignoring the usual gender guidelines for baby names. Josey and James Reynolds could one day marry and have kids in a world where there are no real rules for baby naming. What a time to be alive.

6. Rockwell Lloyd Liu

Lucy Liu shocked the world with the news that she became a mother via gestational carrier this past August. She was very quiet about the pregnancy and simply announced on her Instagram account that she was mom to a son named Rockwell Lloyd. While not the most unusual name, it’s definitely unique and since the pregnancy was kept so quiet, his very existence came as a big surprise.

7. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

This little princess’s arrival was the baby event of the year (sorry, Kim and Kanye) with people the world over awaiting word of her birth—and the announcement of her beautiful name. Duchess Catherine and Prince William touchingly honored the late Princess Diana, who would’ve been Princess Charlotte’s grandmother, by using her name. We have no doubt she would be exceedingly proud of her son and his sweet family.

8. Sailor Gene Gardner

Liv Tyler and partner David Gardner welcome a baby boy this past February and went with Sailor Gene for his name. Sailor has gained in popularity with the celebrity crowd, but usually, as a girl’s name. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler named their baby girl Saylor and Bristol Palin is reportedly going with that name for her daughter, due this month. Liv and David using it for a boy is a little surprising, but no less adorable.

9. Maxima Zuckerberg

Arguably the most “liked” baby of 2015, adorable Maxima Zuckerberg made her debut earlier this month. Mark Zuckerberg and wife, Priscilla Chan, are calling her “Max” and join Jessica Simpson in the realm of celebrities with daughters named “Max.” No matter her name, this child will grow up happy and loved judging by the adorable snaps Zuckerberg has shared. This is one seriously loved little girl.

10. Chanel Nicole Marrow

Coco Austin and husband Ice-T had their baby girl a few weeks ago and gave her a name that matched beautifully with her mother’s—Chanel. It might be a bit surprising for most people, but for this family, it fits perfectly. So far, Coco is proving herself to be every bit the fiery mama bear taking aim at those saying she’s not a hands-on mom. Looks like Chanel has a great role model in her strong mother, as well as a unique and kick-ass name.
