“Fauci Ouchie” FTW

Sometimes kids say the cutest things. Take, for instance, this adorable conversation ballet teacher Emma Scott had with one of her students about the COVID-19 vaccine. She shared it on Twitter, and people were very much here for the vaccine to be renamed immediately.

“A 6-year old ballet student asked me today if I’m excited about getting my ‘Fauci Ouchie’ soon, and I will now be referring to the COVID-19 vaccine as only that, because it’s the cutest thing ever,” Scott wrote. I think we should officially let this child rename everything at once.

As of Saturday, 41.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines (now known as Fauci Ouchie) had been distributed and 20.5 million administered, according to the CDC. The doses are for both Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines. The agency said 17,390,345 people had received one or more doses, while 3,027,865 people got the second dose.

But back to the adorable ballet student. People responded to Scott in droves, telling her they were ready to rename the vaccine immediately:

Of course, if that doesn’t stick, perhaps this one will?

In the last week, coronavirus cases have been dropping steadily and hospitalizations have been doing the same. But health officials are battling against new variants of the virus that they fear could cause new surges of cases faster than the country can distribute Fauci Ouchies.

“We’re definitely on a downward slope, but I’m worried that the new variants will throw us a curveball in late February or March,” Caitlin M. Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health told The New York Times.

The country continues to average around 181,000 new cases each day, more than any point of the pandemic before December, according to The Times. More than 4,300 deaths were announced on Wednesday, the second-highest daily total during this pandemic.

Scott also shared that her student told her “all about how the new president ‘hired the army to bring us the medicine,’ which I assume is how her parents explained The Defense Production Act to her.” I don’t know who this kid is but she sounds more knowledgable than most adults I know.

One woman responded to Scott saying she works in a hospital and they will be naming their vaccine clinic after the little girl’s words.

“I work at a hospital & we just opened what will now be called ‘The XX Fauci Ouchie Clinic,’” she wrote. “I’m spreading the word & anyone that calls it anything else is getting the ouchie in their dominant arm. I got the shot so trust me, they won’t forget after that.”

Here’s hoping it catches on because it’s too cute for words. Plus, having grown ups pop into their doctor’s office looking for the Fauci Ouchie would definitely get someone’s attention.
