5 Dressy Outfits Your Kids Won’t Fight You On

by Liz Henry

It’s almost time to ditch the winter struggle of thick coats and big meltdowns. Yep, spring is almost here, and that means family portraits, get-togethers, and new outfits fit for sharing on Instagram. Yes, your family will only look presentable for a maximum of two seconds, but a win is a win, and you’ll take it.

While winter is a layered nightmare out of necessity, springtime outfits can turn into a battle of wills over the stiffness of looking fancy. With H&M’s spring collection for kids, spring events don’t have to be a struggle. We found five outfits that are sufficiently dressy, totally adorable, and everyday enough that your kids won’t gear up for a fight.

1. For the Girl Who Loves Frills

This ombre pink and white dress is fit for a springtime girl who loves frills and sparkles. Paired with glitter heart sandals and a flower barrette, what’s not to love about this girly-girl style that’s a lovely complement to running through the backyard looking for rainbow-dyed eggs.

2. For the Girl Who Doesn’t Like Pink

Not every girl is a fan of pink frills and fairy princesses, and that’s okay. This peek-a-boo dress is the perfect combination of fun and dressy casual. By adding a pop of color with a headband, your girl will look spring-ready without looking like a tulip. You’ll probably get an eyeroll over the headband, but at least you’ll be on time instead of dealing with a four-alarm frock meltdown at the front door.

3. For The Rough And Tumble Boy

Sometimes you need to meet your kids in the middle, and this outfit is a great compromise for the boy whose only speed is run real fast. Light pastels are a fool’s paradise for this kind of boy, which is why it’s best to avoid them by selecting dark colors with just a touch of springtime blue in a bowtie.

4. For the Boy Who Has to Match His Family

You can’t always get what you want, and there’s no better time than now to start teaching the art of compromise to your kids. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and wear the pastels for the good of the family portrait. Without going overboard, your boy will look crisp and casual, while matching the family’s springtime hues.

5. For the Dapper Young Gentleman

These shoes! I can’t even. They really pull the dapper-young-gentleman-in-training off. Paired with rosy cheeks and crisp comb-over courtesy of a spray-bottle spritz, I don’t even have a son but I want one just so I can put him in this outfit and snap a minimum of a thousand pictures. Handsome, adorable, all the adjectives, for this spring fling outfit for boys.
