The cast of My Best Friend’s Wedding reunited for a sweet, nostalgia filled interview

Remember when Rupert Everett started singing “Say A Little Prayer For You” in My Best Friend’s Wedding and everyone joined in and you thought that life really couldn’t get better than this? Well, it officially has. The cast of the seminole 90’s rom-com reunited for a sweet, beyond nostalgic interview – and your heart just might burst a little from happiness.

Julia Roberts, Rupert Everett, Cameron Diaz, and Dermot Mulroney came together for an Entertainment Weekly photoshoot and shared lots and lots of memories from the making of the film. Important to note: they also feel all kinds of feelings about Julianne’s “pick me, let me make you happy” speech.

“We all got on so well straightaway,” Everett recalled. “And everybody clicked on screen straightaway, and you could feel that. And for me, it was magical. But the last time I saw it, it kind of made me cry just thinking of how magic that time was, that summer.”

They dove into classic scenes, like that time Julianne corners Kimberly into singing karaoke and it’s extremely disastrous but then the whole crowd gets super into it.

“I was terrified to do that scene, for real,” Diaz said. “I allowed the true terror of singing in front of people to be alive in me. I wanted to run and hide, and Dermot kept me there. He said, ‘You can do it, you can do it.’ In the scene I’m just staring at him the whole time because he’s looking at me like, ‘You’re okay. You’re not gonna die.'”

The cast is definitely aware that their film has lived on in people’s hearts, all of these many years later. In fact, Diaz’s sister-in-law Nicole Richie is so obsessed with the movie that she demanded they revisit all of the spots where it was filmed.

“We went to Chicago, like, a year and a half ago, and she took me to every single [location],” Diaz recalled. “She’s like, ‘Remember when you were walking down the street right here and then…’ It was so much fun. I was like, ‘Yes, I think I do.’ She’s like, ‘I do, and it really means a lot to me, so I would like for you to pretend like you do.’”

Never has Nicole Richie been more relatable than in this exact moment.

The cast also put their heads together to decide where their characters would be now. Mulroney and Diaz think that Kimberly and Michael would have stayed together and had their happily ever after. And, thankfully, Julianne and George are still best friends.

“We’re not living together,” Roberts said. “But I live across the street.”
