‘Please Go to Bed’ And Other Thoughts Moms Have During Daylight Savings Time

by Scary Mommy Team

Ok, first off, can we all agree that the person who invented Daylight Savings Time didn’t have kids? There’s just no way. Anyone who has experienced the hard-won creation of a bedtime routine would never willingly say, “You know what would be fun? Twice a year, let’s just randomly change the clocks by an hour. Why? Oh, you know, something about daylight blah blah blah.”

Daylight Savings Time is the enemy of peace, the enemy of parents. As you ponder the benefits of just declaring your family isn’t participating in this madness, here are a few other thoughts that might be swirling around in your sleep-deprived head.

“Wait, we lose an hour? Or is this the one where we gain an hour?”

Literally every time this happens, some of us stand in the kitchen, eyes darting back and forth between phone and oven clock asking ourselves – once again – what the heck is happening. Yes, spring forward, fall back and all that. But when you’re cruising along on not enough sleep, the math is too much.

“How fast can I find some blackout curtains?”

“Get in, kids — mom’s gotta make a quick supply run!” More sunlight is pretty much always welcome. Except when the time changes and bedtime shifts and suddenly you’re in the Land of the Midnight Sun. In the same way that beauty balms promise to “decrease the appearance” of wrinkles, blackout curtains can “decrease the appearance” of the sun at bedtime.

While you’re at the blackout curtains store, pick up some Vicks PURE Zzzs Kidz on your way home, too. It’s available in both gummies and liquid — specifically designed for kids with a low-dose of melatonin and a complementary blend of lavender and chamomile to help your child fall asleep naturally.*

“Welp, in six months my car clock will be correct again.”

The world is made up of two kinds of moms: those that head out at eight a.m. (or is it really seven?) Sunday morning to adjust the clock in their car and those who decide that’s absolutely not happening. Which one are you? No judgement here.

“Why are they avoiding literally the only thing I want to do right now?”

It’s no secret that moms and kids really don’t always see eye-to-eye. If someone told me I needed to go get in bed right this minute, I would literally be under the covers before they finished the sentence. But kids take this one-hour adjustment as a personal insult. If only they knew…

“Great, it took me months to finally get my kid on a schedule. Now it’s all ruined.”

It can be so frustrating to put in work getting that sleep routine where you want it and then BAM — here comes Daylight Savings Time to mess it up. When the bedtime routine is disrupted, Vicks PURE Zzzs Kidz can be an excellent source of support. It works naturally with your child’s body to support sleep with a low dose of melatonin (0.5 mg) and a unique blend of botanicals, including lavender and chamomile.*

“It’s the 21st century. Why is my phone the only clock that updates itself?”

We have self-driving cars but I have to go around the house and figure out how to change the time on every clock in the house? Not cool, tech titans. Not cool.

“Managing bedtime wasn’t hard enough so I’m glad we have DST. What a time to be alive.”

Creating and maintaining a sleep routine without losing your mind is a genuine challenge for most families. Yes, there are probably kids who sweetly toddle off to bed no matter the time. But we don’t know them. For the rest of us, there are blackout curtains and Vicks PURE Zzzs Kidz. The naturally sleep-supporting formula comes in liquid and gummy forms and is drug-free, gluten-free, lactose-free and gelatin-free so you can both rest easy.

“Actually, is time even real?”

Don’t think about this one too hard. Because before you know it, you’ll be back in college in the middle of a late-night debate about the nature of reality and the universe. You really, really don’t have time for that.

Vicks PURE Zzzs Kidz believes that every child deserves a good night’s sleep. Look forward to bedtime with the convenient and great-tasting gummies and liquid that kids love. Ask your doctor to see if it’s right for your child. Learn more at Vicks PURE Zzzs Kid.
