Hero Teen Took Her Harvard Acceptance Letter To Prom Because Who Needs A Man?

by Christina Marfice

“I took a date that was pretty low maintenance, so I didn’t have to pay for his dinner.”

A strong woman doesn’t ever need a man, and 17-year-old high school student Priscilla Samey is living, breathing proof.

Samey didn’t have a date to her senior prom, so she got creative (and threw a little shade to all the men missing out on a date with an amazing woman) by taking something that did accept her: a letter from Harvard University.

“Couldn’t find a man to accept me for prom so I took a college that did #Harvard2021 #prom2k17,” she wrote in a tweet, which has taken off with almost 30,000 retweets.

We’re just over here rolling our eyes at all the guys who passed up the chance to go with Samey, because she’s such a badass. She scored a full ride to Harvard, and was also accepted to Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Columbia and Brown, according to Mic. The site says she got the idea to take her Harvard acceptance letter from her sister.

“I took a date that was pretty low maintenance, so I didn’t have to pay for his dinner,” Samey joked, adding that her classmates were pretty into it.

“They all thought it was so funny and cute,” she said. “I didn’t get any negative feedback like I thought I would and they all were very proud and supportive.”

Samey’s tweet sparked tons of support from the internet, too.

And Samey is just going to continue casually being a huge badass. She plans to study political science with a pre-law track at Harvard, and plans on getting her juris doctorate and a degree in business administration so she can practice business law. The daughter of a pair of Togolese immigrants, she had this advice for other teens who are applying to their dream colleges: “There’s a lot of pressure nowadays that there’s a type colleges want. Stick to your roots, and write essays that reflect who you are as a person.”
