Jacee delivering her brother wasn’t part of the birth plan, but her mom decided to go with it
When families welcome a baby, older siblings can feel left out or question the dynamic once there’s a new kid on the block. One Mississippi 12-year-old is off to a great start in feeling like she’s part of things and that’s because she literally delivered her baby brother.
Yes, you read that right.
When Dede Carraway was readying herself to give birth to her third (and last) child, daughter Jacee Dellapena was concerned about getting a front-row seat. According to WBTV News, she wanted to see her last brother’s birth but because of her age at the time, her parents decided against it.
Jacee wasn’t about to let that happen again.
“I started crying because I thought I wasn’t going to get to see him be born, because I was too short,” she says. And that’s when the doctor stepped in. Carraway recounts, “Doctor Wolf said, ‘Why don’t you just let her suit up and deliver the baby?’ And I said ‘What? No!'”
In the end, Carraway said yes. And we’re so glad she did.
Look at that face. Pure love and joy.
The excited big sister shares what the big moment was like. “I actually, like delivered him, like, he let me actually push down and pull the baby out….I was like, wow, like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is, like, the real thing, this is is the real deal. I was really nervous.”
Whew, no kidding. I would be nervous and I’m 35. This kid is pretty much a rockstar. She even cut the umbilical cord while the baby’s dad stood by taking photos.
Although the birth was a total Kodak moment, the experience wasn’t all sunshine and puppy dogs. Carraway says her epidural wasn’t working, putting her in miserable pain, but watching her daughter bring her son into the world made it all worth it. “Seeing the emotions on her face, it made me cry. I’m about to cry now! It was just a good moment for me,” she says.
Now, 7 lb. 6 oz. Cayson Carraway has a sibling who actually brought him into this world. And that’s a bond we doubt will ever fade. Jacee says, “I was nervous that I was gonna mess up or tear her or something, but it was the best moment of my life.”
Now, the newly minted big sister of two little brothers is considering a career as an OBGYN.
We have no doubt she would rock it.
