Your baby should be sitting confidently by now. She could also be squatting, pulling up, cruising, and maybe even be able to sit back down again. Or, your baby could give a shit about doing any of those things — don’t worry, every kid gets there on their own time. Some babies feel more satisfied sitting in one place to oversee their kingdom, while some can’t wait to get moving, get a driver’s license, and go find Grandma.

If you have an active crawler, you might notice that your little one is starting to wreck the knees of all his pants. We wish we could say there’s a good solution for this, but there isn’t. Kids hate the knees of their pants and it’s only going to get worse. If you can sew, keep your patch kit handy (and hey, could you teach us how to sew)?

Your baby is also probably getting much better with his hands and might be able to hold something with one hand and do something else with the other. This will totally come in handy in college when he plays beer pong; isn’t nice to know that your child is already working on skills that he’ll need for the rest of his life?

It’s super important to keep your home a safe-zone as your little one starts to move more and more. He will put anything he finds in his mouth. Make sure to find out if your plants are all safe and get rid of those that aren’t — it’s really not worth risking a poinsettia-related trip to the ER.

Another a wise idea? Strap some rags onto your crawler’s knees and set him out into the world cleaning the floors. I mean, he’s almost a year old, it’s about time he started earning his keep, right?
