Ever since I was presented with skittles vodka last weekend, my mind has been racing with thoughts of candy and vodka. How did I spent 4 years of college without knowing this genius combination? The two were major staples in my diet– why did I never think of combining them? It all seems so obvious! And so easy…

Take a cup of sugar candy.

Soak for two days in a Mason Jar filled with vodka.

And, behold: Candy flavored vodka.

It dresses up so pretty.

I’m thinking teacher’s holiday gifts right here.

The only problem is that I like making pretty things more than I like doing shots.

So… Who’s coming over for cocktails?

Put in freezer overnight.

It wasn’t my favorite, but I love the idea– it would be good in a Halloween Martini wit something else added. I did try marshmallows and they just didn’t dissolve. I had high hopes for that one, mixed with cream soda. Oh, well.

Reply

64 Adryon October 7, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Last winter, we used a vanilla bean in one. Maybe that would help towards a marshmallow flavor?

Also using berries and the rinds from citrus fruits works really good too. They take a little while longer than the candy variety. I even used peppercorns and hot peppers to mix in Bloody Marys.

I have issues.

I’m a little behind on this post, but I did this in college! With Jolly Ranchers, though. So, we would buy a bag of Jolly Ranchers and a CHEAP ass bottle of vodka (or, someone of-age would anyway) and each person could have whatever flavor candy they put in. We also put the Jolly Ranchers in those drinks….what were they called… Zima?? It was a clear, fizzy, girly alcoholic beverage.
You made these quite classier than ours every were. And, as a teacher, I would LOVE one! :)

Quick question…..Did you use exactly “one cup” of candy and mixed in with how many ounces of vodka? Or just whatever? Thank you so much for sharing!!! This would be perfect to make a couple flavors to put in my sisters homemade goodies basket at christmas.

Nah, nothing exact– just about a cup of candy with a jar full of Vodka— I’m not one for specific measurements. :)

I used the only size I could find- must be the most standard, but I think, like a a 1/4 candy to 3/4 vodka ratio should work…

Maybe mix cinnamon vodka into a hot chocolate?

Beware, not all candies are good! I tried making sour patch kids vodka, only using the green ones because I wanted it green for St Patty’s Day. It created a beautiful hue, but the taste was horrid… If I come up with a bad infusion I always end up putting it into a jello shot and its perfect! :)

Your projects are SO CUTE! …. My recent one is crafty and useful, thought I don’t have pictures, sorry!

Warm Apple Pie**
**(My version, much higher ABV than most recipes on the internet)

32 oz apple juice
32 oz apple cider
8 cinnamon sticks
2 cups brown sugar
2 bottles (est 50 oz./ 1500ml) 190 proof grain alcohol

Result: Est 45% ABV/ 90 Proof Alcohol

Boil juice, cider, cinnamon sticks for about 20 mins, stire in sugar. Let cool completely (first on counter, then covered in fridge), then add everclear.

Made three (3) 32oz bottles- two to friends, one to age in cupboard.
We used Ikea “EZ-Cap” 32oz bottles (4$/ea), and for decoration, we added wire ribbon “lipstick” – the pattern of classic picnic red/white cloth, and a product description tag attached with thin twine. They came out VERY nice.
Due to the bottles being so large, I might put them in 1/2 pint (8oz) mason jars instead next time, and have many smaller gifts instead of a few large ones. We’ll cover the tops (before putting on the ring) with the same picnic-color fabric.
