Toms x Disney has every whimsical pair of shoes and shades your family needs this summer

I’m just going to come right out and say it: A lot of Disney apparel geared toward adults is pretty cheesy. If that’s your thing, power to you! Embrace the cheese! But for the fashion-forward Disney lover over the age of 11, options are few and far between — until now.

The new Toms x Disney collection features shoes and shades that pay homage to some of the oldest of old-school Disney princesses: Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. But unlike most Disney apparel, these aren’t accessories slapped with still images from the movies. Nope, they feature artwork pulled from the Disney Archives’ way, way, way undervalued Ink and Paint department, which was an all-female art department that existed during Disney’s golden age from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Seriously, look at them. The art is so delicate and detailed. It’s Disney, but so much more beautiful and adult-wardrobe-worthy than the standard cartoon images. We know every avid Disney lover is going to be begging their Fairy Godmother for a pair of these.

Plus, you can get a pair of sunnies to match.

While these shoes are adorable and probably hella comfy and Tom’s gives a pair to someone in need for every pair purchased, what’s really cool about this collection is how it shines a light on the women who made up Disney’s Ink and Paint department so long ago. For women who were talented and creative, actual animation jobs weren’t an option during Disney’s golden age — those jobs were for men only. Women were relegated to the Ink and Paint department, where they painstakingly drew Disney’s famous characters on celluloid sheets, then filled them in with color, preparing them for the all-male animation department to take over. Our favorite Disney classics wouldn’t have existed without these talented women, who often didn’t even receive credit for their important work. It’s about time we recognize what they contributed to Disney’s success.

Toms x Disney shoes in women’s and kids’ sizes will begin rolling out on June 21, when the Cinderella styles will be released. Sleeping Beauty shoes will be released on July 19, with Snow White styles following on August 23. A six-piece holiday capsule collection will be revealed sometime in the fall. Basically your shoe choices are all set for 2018. You’re welcome.
