Toddler Kicks Feet Into The Aisle, Whole Family Gets Kicked Off Plane

A mother and her four children were kicked off a flight from Charlotte to St. Louis this week after she was unable to keep her 17-month-old from kicking his legs into the aisle. This is just getting ridiculous.

Emily Kaiman wrote about the incident on a post on her Facebook page:

US Airways told News 4 “the flight attendant who noticed the toddler felt the mother could not control him and therefore felt it was best to remove the toddler from flight.” Returning to the gate and having security remove a mother, a grandmother, and four children because of a fidgety toddler?

Fussy babies on flights are annoying – there’s no argument there. But if it’s not already hard enough to fly with children, now we have to worry about being ejected from the plane? That is just crazy. Kaiman says she was allowed to board the next flight with her children, which confused her even more. On a follow up post to her page she said, “The Airline says removing my 17-month-old, Shai was for his safety and the safety of other passengers. If their concern was for my son’s and other passengers’ safety, then I am not sure why they would have allowed him to fly on a different plane immediately after this incident.” It sounds like it can be boiled down to an airline crew that didn’t feel like dealing with the child for the duration of the flight.

No one likes to fly with a fussy baby — but this complete lack of tolerance for small children on planes is just getting ridiculous. Families should not be grounded once they have children. There are plenty of annoying things on planes that people just deal with: chatty seat mates, the person in front of you who reclines into your lap, really loud earphones. Maybe there’s more to this story – but the airline’s explanation is lame. Making an entire family get off a plane because of a fussy toddler is just silly.
