It seems like everywhere I go lately, I am bombarded with inspirational messages. Facebook tells me to look at the horizon and run. Pinterest tells me to treasure the little moments. Twitter tells me that each morning is a new day and to seize it.

Well, you know what? I’m sick of it.

I’m sick of being told to run and to enjoy and to climb and to seize.

Personally, I quite like sitting on my couch for hours at a time or driving around for twenty minutes looking for the closest parking spot. I can’t help but see the dirty footprints to come when my kids stomp in the puddles, rather than the beauty of nature’s rain and I don’t need someone telling me how renewing the sunrise is.

Inspiration?

No thanks. These are more my speed…

Inspiration, Scary Mommy style: It's a beautiful day to sit inside with the blinds drawn...

Inspiration, Scary Mommy style: There is never a reason to run.

Inspiration, Scary Mommy style: I'll seize the day from my couch.

Inspiration, Scary Mommy: Miracles are everywhere.

Inspiration, Scary Mommy style: Dance like everyone is watching.

The only thing I seize daily, is every quiet moment I could possibly get. Those little moments are overrated. Each morning may be a new day – but the same fracking things happen that day as the day before.

I can handle FB and all the rest because those I just turn off or unclick or whatever. What gets me is the twerpy 20-something yoga teacher in her gazillion dollar lululemons telling me to “breathe” and “feel the light” and “let go of what does not serve me” and crap like that. Look, toots, until you’ve birthed some babies out your hoochie, picked cheezit crumbs out of your cleavage, or done the morning marathon of breakfast-lunchboxes-workclothes-out-the-door, shaddup and let me do my damn down dog on my own. Inspire my (sagging middle-aged) ass.

These are greatness!!! The worst inspirational message out there is the one that says” Good moms have sticky floors and dirty ovens”. Okay, so those of us who like a somewhat clean house are the shitty ones I guess? It’s funny but actually one of the most important things you can do is learn how to sit in anger, sadness, fear, and shame. Without running away.

Not a lot of inspirational posters that say, “Sadness is awesome. Stay there and cry for a good hour!”

But you should.

I know there are some other men who read this so as a PSA allow me to say that you should never look at one of the pictures of a hard bodied woman, turn to your significant other and start laughing.

Because that may be the moment the woman who doesn’t run does and when she catches you it won’t be to throw you down for a night of pleasure.

Not that I know anything about this.

It’s true. Those cheesy inspirational posters do nothing for me but remind me of all my failures. I am inspired by the greatness of ordinary women, women not unlike myself, who overcome the odds without wealth or pressure from impossible circumstances. Women whose lives are otherwise mundane and sweet, and can see where that’s heading when they’re 60 and empty nesting. People who see the need for improvement in the little things. God is my best friend. He sees me through the tough times and shares my joys. He provides the people and circumstances I need in my life to overcome my fears and inner voice of deprivation that I’ve grown so comfortable with other the years. He stops me from eating everything especially when I’m all alone. His music inspires me.

love these posters. My favorite is the jogger. Have you ever seen a jogger with a smile on there face. Not so much. You you aren’t having fun doing it why in the heck would you be doing it.
Life is full of ups and downs and when you are raising kids, all you need to do to survive the situation is humor. With out humor you are poretty much screwed!

Smell the roses when they are sleeping, and grab that beer while you are at it, because that is most likely what you need when you have had a day like you had.
Thanks for the smile and telling it like it is.
