Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s home birth plans fell apart and ended in an emergency c-section

Like so many new parents, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel discovered that babies don’t really care about your carefully laid birth plans. In fact, the birth of their first child went the exact opposite of what the celebrity couple intended, as detailed in a new book by their nanny, Connie Simpson.

In an excerpt from “Nanny to the Stars” shared by ET, the parents opened up about the natural birth they set out to have — and the emergency c-section they ended up needing to bring son Silas safely into the world.

“Our story with Nanny Connie started the day we brought our son home from the hospital. That may sound like a normal statement coming from new parents, except our birth plan was anything but normal,” they write. “We had two midwives, one doula, one meditation birthing class, a ton of hippie baby books, and a lovely home in the Hollywood Hills that we had turned into a labor training facility that we called The Octagon. So, not exactly normal.”

They describe how it felt to have their original home birth idea basically shattered. “When all our plans fell apart and the serene, natural childbirth we had envisioned ended with a transfer to the hospital and an emergency C-section, we arrived home exhausted, disillusioned, and totally in shock.”

Biel writes of her new mom demands post-birth and a lot of hopeful first-time parents will definitely get it. “I was obsessed with everything organic, toxin-free, natural, and homeopathic for our kid, who came into this world in an operating room through an incision. I was a dictator, making myself and my husband insane!”

I get where they’re coming from as I too had plans for natural childbirth that went kaput due to a number of factors, but at least I had several days’ warning for a planned c-section. The chaos of an emergency surgical birth is entirely different, and having gone into it with the planning that Biel and Timberlake had must have made the aftermath pretty difficult to digest. I can’t imagine only having moments to absorb the fact that my dream birth was about to go to shit.

This is just one more time where the famous parents have opened up about the realities of having a child, as Biel’s past Instagram posts have let us know that she too eats in the shower and struggles to take her kid out in public.

Honestly, she gets us.

Like, she really gets us.

Kudos to Biel and Timberlake for sharing their very real reaction to their plans falling apart, because goodness knows plenty of parents can relate.
