Superintendent sings his version of Adele’s “Hello” for snow day announcement

A handful of schools were closed in Illinois at the beginning of the week due to a snowstorm, and the superintendent had some fun with the recorded message he sent home to let parents know they wouldn’t need to shuttle their kids to school that day.

“Hello, it’s me. The man you want to hear from on snow days but never see. You will, not go to school… at Harrisburg Unit Three…”

Superintendent Mike Gauch sang the announcement that was then sent to all parents with kids in attendance at Harrisburg Community Schools. He broke character at the end to make sure parents were really getting the message and not scratching their heads wondering who was calling them with a bootleg rendition of an Adele song: “Due to conditions, there will be no school at Harrisburg Unit 3. Have a wonderful evening.” One of the moms who received the message, Carla LaCrosse Foster, posted it to the local news station’s Facebook page and they picked up the story. Another parent called the call “the funniest snow day announcement, ever.”

Yahoo Parenting notes that this isn’t the first time a school administrator had some fun with a recorded message: “In 2014, a principal and drama teacher at Stephens Elementary School in Kentucky teamed up for a rendition of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ that quickly went viral… that same year, administers at Durham Academy in North Carolina took school cancellations a step further with a rap music video set to Vanilla Ice’s ‘Ice Ice Baby.'”

Snow day announcements can be a real drag for parents who have to quickly drum up childcare — a little hilarity softens the blow. It’s also nice to see someone having some fun with their work. As for the song writing ability… Gauch probably shouldn’t quit his day job, but he definitely gets an A for effort. This is further proof that no one can stop themselves from singing that song.
