FX's The Bear has taken TV by storm — in fact, Jeremy Allen White (aka Chef Carmy) just picked up a Golden Globe. The show, following a struggling restaurant and grieving family, is full of cool names. Check it out.

Carmen (Carmy)

This name actually has many meanings and a few possible origins. In this instance, we like to think Carmy’s parents chose it for its Italian heritage, linking it to variations like Carmine and Carmelo. It means “God’s vineyard.” Pretty, poetic, and still a strong-sounding name.

FX

Sydney

Our favorite things about Sydney are her side-eye and determination. The Old English name Sydney means “wide meadow.” While it’s never been super popular, it isn’t falling out of favor, either.

FX

Chicago

The Bear is set in Chicago and really highlights the city’s working class. The Windy City is such a magnificent one; why shouldn’t it get the same baby-naming treatment as cities like London, Brooklyn, or Jackson?

FX

Richard (Richie)

Richie is a bit of a f*ck-up. However, it’s hard (though not impossible) to deny his loyalty and good heart. The man tries. Richard is an Old French name that means “strong in rule,” and although it comes with some awkward nicknames, Richie is pretty cute.

FX

Ebraheim

This name is a variation of the Hebrew name Ebrahim, meaning, “father of a multitude” or “father of a nation.” On the show, Ebraheim absolutely leans into the role of a stoic, father-figure type.

FX

Bear

There are actually a ton of people named Bear. And why not? The name has a cute, cuddly feel for when your babe is younger but has the popular and trendy rugged vibe of names like Jax, Maverick, or Ranger.

FX

Marcus

Marcus is derived from Mars, the God of fertility. There are several famous Marcuses, and The Bear’s Marcus is another fine example. He’s focused, loyal, and, honestly, kind of brilliant. We’d eat any of his desserts.

FX

Sugar

Our introduction to Sugar on The Bear was a bit confusing and vague, but the reveal was worth it. A sweet, caring big sister whose “real name” is Natalie, Sugar just fits her better. And tbh, we think it would be a solid, scrumptious name for anyone.

FX

Michael

Brother to Sugar and Carmy and best friend to Richie, Michael seems like the ultimate shoulder to lean on — hence why his ending shocked and upended the whole family. The name Michael has always been wildly popular, most likely because of its many nicknames and solid meaning of “Who is like God?”

FX

Chef

Listeeeeen... if we can name our kids Ranger, Major, and Sailor, why can’t we explore other jobs as names? Chefs are often passionate, creative, and hard-working. Isn’t that what we all want for our babes?

FX

Sunday

Sunday meals are meaningful in many families, but they’re especially important to Italian families. The scenes from The Bear that feature the siblings prepping for a Sunday dinner are some of the sweetest and most insightful. Plus, Sunday is already a pretty trendy but not overdone name.
