Heads up, readers: This post might be a little nasty to some, so if you can’t stomach pimples, blackheads, or cysts, you might want to sit this one out. However, if you have tried hard to not get sucked into the blackheads of the internet, but you can’t help but be curious, then please stay because you might finally understand what this craze is all about. And if you are like me and you are addicted to this crap, then you are welcome.
Waits for people to leave.
No shame to those who do…
Sandra Lee, MD, aka Dr. Pimple Popper, isn’t your average YouTube star. In fact, if you had told me that a board-certified dermatologist, skin cancer surgeon, and cosmetic surgeon would be racking up millions of views a month on YouTube digging out blackheads, I’d have laughed in your face. Then I’d have probably puked a little in my mouth.
Yet here we are. As of right now, October 2017, Dr. Pimple Popper is about to break 3 million YouTube followers. This is in addition to her 1.7 million Facebook followers. In other words, if you love watching extractions, then you are in good company.
If you have spent any amount of time online in the past year, it’s been pretty difficult to avoid stumbling onto pictures of massive cysts along with a caption about yellow gold. I will be the first to admit, I’m pretty addicted to these things. Not that I seek them out, but whenever they come up on my Facebook feed, I always click, then I watch in both amazement and horror as something incredibly gross is dug out from another person’s body. But there was a time when I just didn’t know if I could click. I didn’t know if I could break the barrier on this new trend.
So for those of you who are curious but not 100% sure about this new craze, or you are just trying to figure out if you can handle it, below are the three most popular Dr. Pimple Popper videos, and one particularly nasty bonus.
1. A Giant Blackhead Extracted in an 85-Year-Old Accompanied by Her Daughter (35 Million Views)
In this delightful video, Dr. Pimple Popper digs a blackhead out of an 85-year-old woman’s back as her daughter makes snide comments in the background. I will admit, for those of you trying to decide, this is a good one to start with. It’s not all that nasty. More or less, a diamond-sized black head is pulled out with tweezers.
2. A Goldmine of Blackhead & Whitehead Extractions (24 Million Views)
This poor dude has a cluster of various pimples on his nose. According to Dr. Pimple Popper’s commentary on the video, he “has rosacea and rhinophyma, which causes increased thickening of the skin of the nose, increased oil production in the area, and very large pores that fill with keratinous material creating huge blackheads and whiteheads.” More or less, you can actually watch his nose get smaller as a bazillion zits are squeezed out. I assume any woman who loves a man with a pimple-coated nose will find this video satisfying.
3. Blackhead Extraction Session #2 in “Mrs. Gold” — Addressing the Inflamed One (22 Million Views)
Now this one, I will admit, is a little harder to watch. This lady has a pimple on her back, that has a pimple on its back. Dr. Pimple Popper simply digs and digs, finding more and more, to the point where you are left astonished that so much could be inside someone’s pores.
Now, if you have made it this far, you might have what it takes to watch the truly nastiest of all nasties. This is a two-part video where a growth the size of a child’s head is removed from a man’s neck. If you can make it through both parts of this sucker, you are a stronger person than I, because I had to turn this one off.
So here’s the deal: Dr. Pimple Popper isn’t for everyone. However, a lot of people obviously love them because just look at the views these videos are racking up. If you go down this road, I must warn you: These videos can become habit-forming. The long-term effects are yet to be determined.
