A Hocus Pocus-inspired photoshoot imagining the Sanderson sisters as kids goes viral

It’s October, and you know what that means? Spooky season is upon us! And it wouldn’t be the spooky season without a mention of the cult 90’s classic Hocus Pocus. The film is so beloved — one might even argue that Hocus Pocus is single-handedly keeping Freeform’s 31 Days of Halloween afloat — and so nostalgic, that Louisiana-based photographer Jennifer Buck of Just Be PhotoJennic Photography had the brilliant idea to conjure up a tweenaged-take on Hocus Pocus with a photoshoot imagining the Sanderson sisters… as kids.

“I love Halloween & doing fun shoots!” Jennifer shared in a Facebook post. “Hocus pocus is a classic!”

This is more than just a “fun shoot,” this is a whole production. The girls perfectly embody Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson, the props are on-point, the acting is perfection.

Jennifer, who runs a dance studio in addition to the photography business, told Scary Mommy that she got the idea for the photoshoot when she saw the three girls goofing around backstage at a dance performance and thought they gave off serious “Sanderson sister” vibes.

“These three girls have been my students for years and have been part of the [dance] company for a few; they’re some of the youngest performers!” Jennifer tells us of the girls, all aged 10. “They are all amazing dancers and performers! In our last dance production in July, we were at a rehearsal and I saw them goofing off, being themselves and I thought ‘Oh my goodness, those three would be the perfect Sanderson sisters!'”

“They are all best friends and have been dancing and performing together for many years, which made this shoot super easy and fun,” Jennifer added. “I got all of the costumes, wigs and props together and we went out one afternoon and just played around! Each of them embodied their characters perfectly and had a blast in the process and that’s what matters most.”

What Jennifer and the girls thought would be a fun activity on the weekend has turned into a viral sensation and her original post now has more than 5,000 shares.

“I never expected it to be shared and liked by so many on social media. All of us are just over the moon about the attention the shoot is getting!!!” Jennifer said.
