Pssst — come closer. I’m about to tell you a secret, and I’m telling you because I care: If you’re a parent of water-safe kids and you have a patch of outdoor space, you need to buy this above-ground pool right now. (Yes, in February.)

In a stroke of mom brilliance, I bought it shortly after the pandemic forced my kids home from school last March. Then, it was priced around $100, but soon it soared well over $500 online as demand spiked compared to supply, when it became clear #quarantinelife would stretch on and on. Then it sold out altogether.

Here in Los Angeles, it got fast hot — and it stayed hot for, like, ever. But ours was the house with the somewhat unsightly yet endlessly entertaining pool in the backyard. Our yard is small and otherwise modest, but my kids were thrilled and other families were mad jealous. (Although, not people who had proper in-ground pools; I presume they were not remotely jealous.)

The reality is that spring is coming, and then summer will be here before you know it. And we’re likely staring down more months of needing to entertain kids at home and ideally off their screens… including spring break (gulp).

One five-star reviewer on Amazon bought it to add a “little piece of paradise” to the backyard. And that’s how I’d sum it up too: It’s a little piece of paradise in the safety of your own space at a time when a vacation might still be out of reach for a while longer. But until then — if you score this thing now — you’ll be the house with the pool. You’re welcome.
