The diaper industry has long focused on what to add: organic cotton, plant-based liners, chlorine-free wood pulp. Bc Babycare is taking a different approach by asking what to take out.

A Diaper Core Without Wood Pulp

The brand recently launched its CLOUD SKIN diaper, which removes wood pulp from the equation entirely. According to the company, the absorbent core is made of 100% SAP (superabsorbent polymer).

Product testing by the brand showed effective overnight performance (12 hours), with the diaper maintaining dryness through typical sleep periods without visible leakage or rewetting.

How The SAP Core Works

Instead of wood pulp, the diaper features a dense layer of superabsorbent polymer particles between the nonwoven fabric structure. In their dry state, the SAP particles are fine and powder-like. As they absorb moisture, the SAP particles are designed to swell significantly and form a gel-like consistency.

According to the company, the specialty core is designed to help manage wetness more consistently than traditional wood pulp blends. The company explains that while traditional wood pulp can release moisture when compressed, SAP particles are engineered to maintain their gel state under pressure, reducing the risk of rewetting.
