If there was anything humorous to come out of the Kavanaugh hearing, this video is it

Most of us were glued to our screens this week, watching the Ford/Kavanaugh hearing with a combination of outrage and disbelief, routinely grabbing our remotes to hurl at anyone who dared enter the room (continued apologies to my cat). It was an emotional, draining day. Sometimes when that happens there’s a need for a little bit of levity, because none of us want to spend the rest of our lives in jail for murder.

When you’re ready to laugh, please let me introduce you to this mash-up video of Pulp Fiction meets Brett Kavanaugh’s smarmy testimony to lift your spirits, but if only for a moment.

Instagram account Elara Pictures decided to do a little cut and edit of Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Jules Winnfield, interrogating Kavanaugh and the results are, well, absolute perfection. “CHECK OUT THE BIG BRAIN ON BRETT,” they wrote, then dropped the biggest awesome-burger of all time:

For those of you who haven’t seen Pulp Fiction, please for the love go watch it immediately. For the rest of the world, the editors of this little compilation blended Kavanaugh’s testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary committee with the “Big Kahuna hamburger scene,” one of the all time greatest scenes from any movie, ever. And if you wanted to scream at the shitstorm before you yesterday, this will provide some much needed comic relief.

After some quick introductions, Kavanaugh blurts out, “Um, I got into Yale Law School,” as he did no less than 85 times yesterday. “It’s…it’s the number one law school in the country,” he sputters. He goes on about liking beer, still liking beer, and “never sexually assaulting anyone,” to which Winnfield screams, “Yes you did. YES YOU DID, BRETT!” in his face, much the way we’d all have liked to do yesterday.

Of course, they had to include Sen. Graham’s pity party (which ultimately I wished he’d referred to as the original “Flock-of-Seagulls for multiple reasons) after seeing a fellow, privileged white guy mistreated in front of his eyeballs, to which Winnfield rightly replies, “I don’t remember asking you a goddamn thing.”

The video went wildly viral and eventually made its way to Sameul L. Jackson himself, and he was absolutely here for it — even if the humor comes amid dark circumstances.

Somehow, the makers of this video managed to turn this shit biscuit of a day into a Royale with cheese. And for that, we are grateful.
