How many of us, when we look back on our tween and teen years, feel like we owe our moms an apology? There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with taking care of another human that we just didn’t think about when we were young. If I knew as a kid what I know now as a mom, my teen years would have come with far fewer eye rolls.
With the kids heading back to school, it’s the perfect time to reach out to our OG moms for advice. The tween and teen years are unpredictable and incredibly awkward. There are raging hormones to deal with, possibly braces, and did we mention lockers and changing for gym class? UGH.
But here’s the deal: A lot of the things kids freak out about now are what we were freaking about then. Acne? We can make an appointment for that. Braces? Now there’s an alternative thanks to Invisalign® clear aligners which can treat simple to complex teen cases. Invisalign clear aligners are the most advanced clear aligner system in the world. Somehow all of us survive gym class and figure out how to open our lockers. Promise.
We asked the Scary Mommy community, “What would your mom say is different about raising tweens and teens today, and what advice can you give us?” Here’s what the community had to say:
1. Birds Of A Feather Flock Together.
2. You Know, The Basics.
3. Hello??? I’m Over Here.
4. It’s Hard, But I’m Here For You.
5. We Had Rock And Roll.
6. And Maybe WE Need To Put Our Phones Down…
7. Technology Ruins Everything.
9. Never A Truer Statement Has Been Made Than This.
10. Thanks, Mom.
Besides the digital stuff, not much has changed about parenting tweens and teens. The lessons our parents were trying so hard to teach us are the same ones we’re sharing with our own kids. I think our parents might call that “payback”!
The work of parenting is hard, but it’s worth it. Good luck, moms!
The Invisalign® system is the most advanced clear aligner system in the world. You can expect predictable results, no matter how simple or complex the case thanks to digital scanning and SmartTrack® material. Thank goodness something about parenting is predictable!
