Anthony Anderson has been accused of assaulting a woman

A woman has come forward with an assault accusation against Anthony Anderson. According to a report from The Blast, the actor is currently being investigated by the LAPD for the reported incident, which allegedly happened last year.

The Blast reports the woman first met Anderson at an event that he hosted. She connected with him a second time to discuss possible business opportunities, which is when the alleged assault occurred. “We have a crime report listing [Anderson] as a suspect in a crime,” the LAPD confirmed. “It is an open investigation.” The woman apparently did not come forward immediately after the alleged incident, but felt comfortable to report Anderson to authorities months afterward, “due in part to the #MeToo movement.”

Sources close to the situation tell us she felt comfortable enough to come forward months after the alleged incident occurred, due in part to the “#MeToo movement.”

The actor’s team quickly denied the accusation. “It’s unfortunate that anyone can file a police report, whether it is true or false,” Anderson’s rep told Variety. “The authorities have not contacted Anthony or any of his representatives about this matter. Anthony unequivocally disputes the claim.”

This isn’t the first time that the actor has been accused of assault. In 2004, a woman testified that Anderson and assistant director Wayne Witherspoon raped her in a trailer during the filming of Hustle & Flow. The 25-year-old told the court that she had had sex with both Anderson and Witherspoon in the days leading up to the alleged attack, and those encounters were forced as well. Her allegations were eventually dismissed.

Anderson denied that alleged assault as well. “He is, of course, both relieved and delighted by the judge’s decision to throw out what was so obviously a trumped-up case,” his rep said at the time. “That said, this has been a terrible ordeal for him and his family, and he is eager to put it behind him and move on with his life and career.”

Anderson made headlines earlier this year when it was reported his salary was significantly higher than that of his Black-ish co-star, Tracee Ellis Ross, despite both roles requiring equal work from each actor.
