Pregnant and feeling a little overwhelmed? Wouldn’t you love to get away from it all alone or with your sweetheart and escape to a little piece of paradise, or at least, enjoy some much-needed R&R? If this all sounds like music to your ears (and why wouldn’t it?) it sounds like you’re in need of a babymoon, stat. In recent years taking a “babymoon” — which is essentially taking a mini-vacation before the birth of your child — has only grown in popularity. And why wouldn’t it? Any experienced mom would tell you that taking some “me time” is essentially a necessity before hearing the pitter patter of little feet. So if you’re considering taking a babymoon, we rounded up some of the most luxurious and relaxing babymoon destinations.

While Zika hasn’t been in the news as much lately, it’s definitely something that mamas-to-be should be aware of when traveling. Zika is a virus that’s spread mostly by mosquitoes, and it can be spread from a pregnant woman to her fetus, which can cause certain birth defects. Diana Ramos, MD, adjunct assistant clinical professor and OB-GYN, Keck University of Southern California, tells Scary Mommy: “If you are traveling internationally for the holidays be sure you check the CDC’s site for travel health notices. By putting in the country you are visiting you can see if there are any travel precautions. You can also search by disease such as Zika to see if there are warnings for your destination.”
