Sometimes letting go is better than holding on

When it comes to weddings, there’s always someone in the bunch that has sour grapes about it. Maybe the groom’s mother channels Jane Fonda in Monster-In-Law, or the bride’s best friend has an existential, territorial meltdown à la Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids. But that’s just the movies. In this real-life wedding, it’s the groom’s BFF who seems like he’s ready to overthrow a giant chocolate fountain any second.

Lindsey Berger of Country Roads Photography recently shared a bride and groom’s photo shoot featuring the groom’s best friend, Mitch, who appears to be… Sad? Jealous? Going through something? You decide.

Berger says the newlyweds have been friends with Mitch and his girlfriend (also a member of the wedding party) for a long time, so the engagement photo idea seemed like a funny, authentic way to sum up their relationship with each other. The bride was apparently inspired by a popular Pinterest idea, but used Mitch as a twist.

“They have such a fun, funny, crazy awesome friendship,” she says. “I thought, you know what, I’ve never seen a follow up photo to that first picture.” She said the initial engagement photo was a viral hit in their hometown, she decided to continue the story to show how the best man was “handling the wedding.”

Berger says the enormous positive response she’s received to the photos has encouraged her to continue following the these three throughout their life milestones.

“We are now planning on doing a series with these three,” she says. “If the bride gets pregnant, we will do a follow-up or when Mitch gets engaged to his adorable girlfriend, that will be a picture.”

The shoe caption possibilities are endless!

It’s kind of refreshing to see the “psycho third wheel” trope represented by a man here, no? I kid, I kid. Don’t worry, Mitch, your best bro will still be available for a glass of red and an episode of Scandal anytime you want. I’m sure this won’t change a thing.
