Britney Spears shares message with fans amid documentary drama

Since the premiere of “Framing Britney Spears,” a New York Times documentary on Hulu about Britney Spears’ decade-long battle to free herself from her father Jamie Spears’ conservatorship, there has been a newfound interest in Britney’s legal saga with fans literally demanding the Princess of Pop be freed from her financial stranglehold. Now, in a somewhat cryptic Instagram post, Britney has seemingly addressed the events of the documentary and the buzz and whispers surrounding her well-being, writing that she’s “taking the time to learn and be a normal person.”

Back in 2008, when Brit was battling a mental health crisis and was surrounded by opportunists like Adnan Ghalib, it made sense that her father Jamie Spears had to step in and take control of Britney’s finances in the form of a conservatorship. However, now almost 13 years later, Britney is still under her father’s conservatorship despite being a functioning adult woman, very recently capable of performing nightly at a sold-out Vegas review while being a mom to her two boys. In 2020, her father petitioned to change the conservatorship to a “hybrid business model,” which many in the documentary allege is a sign that Jamie’s refusal to relinquish control of his daughter’s life and estate is because he makes so much money off her.

It’s fucked up, it’s infuriating, and although Brit has not spoken publicly about the conservatorship at all (except in court documents to say she is “afraid” of her father), a recent Instagram post sheds some light onto what she’s thinking now. Referring to the fact that she hasn’t performed in years (she claims she won’t until she’s free of her father’s financial control), Brit writes on Instagram: “I’ll always love being on stage …. but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ….. I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!!”

Then, in what many feel is a more direct allusion to the details shared in the documentary, Brit writes that “each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives !!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens.”

This may be all we get from Britney on the subject for a while, though her boyfriend Sam Asghari was much more candid when he posted on Instagram Stories earlier this week and called Jamie Spears “a total dick.”

“Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way,” Asghari wrote. “In my opinion Jamie is a total dick. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.”

Many hope that the newfound interest in Britney’s conservatorship will force the judge’s hand and award a ruling in the singer’s favor. At the end of the day, all anyone wants for Britney is the best and every freedom she deserves. #FreeBritney
