Chrissy had questions about her pet hamster — the internet had answers
Chrissy Teigen is only a few years into this whole parenting thing, but she’s already straight up nailing it. She allowed two-year-old daughter Luna to have a pet hamster, a thing I’ve vowed to never do in my home because I refuse to be the only one cleaning the cage, which is exactly how it would go. Trouble is, hamsters are a bit more complex than Teigen (or probably any mom) bargained for, so she took to Twitter to get a few things sorted out.
Like, why won’t this little thing stop nibbling its damn cage?
“Luna and I bought a hamster today. Her name is peanut butter. John is not thrilled, which makes me love her more,” she quips.

Teigen asked Twitter for advice on how to handle their new family pet — because who even knew how totally baffling hamsters can be? Like, what do they eat?
They told us we can feed her anything. My mom said “rice?” And they go “no, not rice”— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019
And you can’t…touch them? Alrighty then.
They also said “don’t really touch her for a week. Then touch her a lot or she’ll bite you” it’s very confusing, being a hamster mom— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019
Apparently they’re not super great at cohabitating?
I said “should I get two so they can have a friend?” And the lady said no, one will end up with a lot of bully scars. So any hamster tips are welcome— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019
They’re also pretty much the ninjas of rodents.
I just went to take a picture of her and I honestly can’t find her— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

Once Teigen opened up about her hamster’s, um, quirky behavior, she must’ve gotten some chiding for the creature’s living quarters. She quickly put all concerns of Peanut Butter’s personal comfort to rest. This is one spoiled little fur-girl.
Please don’t feel bad for her. We got her everything and more and a giant space to roam in. If I had a safe enclosure for a hamster farm, i would have that.— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019
Let the panicking and obsessing continue.
I feel like she doesn’t know how to drink out of her hamster drink thing. I keep showing her and i am starting to feel dumb— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019
The internet was extremely helpful and reassuring during Teigen’s time of small pet confusion.
YES! My hamsters always do this when they're adjusting to a new cage! Maybe try putting some safe toys in there!— ash (@assshhleeyyy) March 11, 2019

Our hamster Jet. Agree on the touching. Give them time to adjust and then hold them every day. I was dead set against one and he’s actually pretty fun & sweet! pic.twitter.com/GAg4TxN54m— Donelle Underwood (@donelleu) March 11, 2019
Also, this horror show is totally a thing and the real reason a hamster will never live in my home. When my cousin first started teaching, she got a hamster for her kindergarten classroom. She had no idea she bought a pregnant hamster and came in one morning to what I can only call hamster carnage. I will never as long as I live forget that phone call.https://twitter.com/jetpack/status/1104965156348592129
UGH. Why, hamsters? Just…why?
I may still be traumatized from my hampster eating her babies. One was badly injured but still alive so I tried to put it out of its misery by offering it cough syrup. Turns out it wasn’t too interested in drinking the cough syrup and slowly died.— Jessica Jamison (@NotTheRealJess) March 11, 2019
These little things do not mess around, y’all. But if anyone can handle cannibal animal craziness with all kinds of chill, it’s Teigen. She’s always extremely open about dealing with the ins and outs of pregnancy and motherhood. We also already knew she was very into her pets.
But above all, she’s a loving momma to Luna and sweet baby Miles, so it’s no surprise that when her little girl wanted a hamster, Teigen made it happen.
Obviously she will do anything to make them happy.
OK, maybe not anything. Probably best to get control of the one before adding to the Legend-Teigen ham-ily.
When Luna discovers that she can probably convince you to get another hamster & name her jelly. pic.twitter.com/5HFe2ph4Yw— Steven Wine (@id6klub) March 11, 2019
