Do you know what you should do after you get a DWI? Thank your lucky stars you didn’t kill anyone and gladly hand over your license and do your community service. You know what you shouldn’t do after you get a DWI? Make a giant joke of it by driving around your college campus in a Barbie car, like one college student is currently doing.

20-year-old Tara Monroe is driving a Barbie Jeep all over her Texas State campus because her license was suspended after a DWI. Her father offered her a bike, but since riding a bike around campus “like really sucks,” as she told My SanAntonio, she decided to buy a used Barbie car off Craiglist. She’s been getting a lot of attention.

“This is the best way I could have gotten my 15 minutes of fame,” she said. “Basically, it was the best decision I’ve made in college, yet…” Hmm. This might be more funny if thousands of people weren’t killed by impaired drivers every year. I consider myself to have a keen sense of humor – but the complete lack of consideration for what landed her in this car-less predicament and jump to giddiness is really disturbing. “It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make them (her friends) walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play,” she quipped. “I’m just happy everyone thinks this is so hilarious.” Monroe denies she was driving while intoxicated and says her license was suspended because she refused to take a breathalyzer test. MySA reports she’s inspiring others to buy cars for children and drive them around. Why does this make me fear for humanity? Good news: college is a place where you are forced to become an adult. Bad news: there are still plenty of bad decisions to go around.
