This mom’s real baby looked frighteningly as though it was sleeping next to a ghost baby

Do you ever recall being so sleep deprived as a new mom that you literally start seeing things? Objects or visions you know just can’t be true — and yet — there they are right before your eyes? Such is the case with one Chicago mom who swore she saw something eerie in her baby’s crib. She saw something alright, it just wasn’t (thankfully) what she thought.

Maritza Cibuls, a 32-year-old stay-at-home-mom to her son and daughter, was caring for her kids one night while her husband was at work. Like any mom, she put her son to bed then checked on him later using their video baby monitor. What she saw next can only be described as the stuff of nightmares.

“So last night I was positive there was a ghost baby in the bed with my son,” Cibuls wrote on Facebook. “I was so freaked out, I barely slept. I even tried creeping in there with a flashlight while my son was sleeping.” OMG, this picture is my worst fear realized. How this woman went to check on her child without a ghost whisperer, some sage, and the entire local police department filing in behind her is beyond me. Close your eyes, ghost baby, you’re making it worse.

Culbris tells Scary Mommy she sent the picture to her husband at work and he wasn’t perturbed in the slightest. “My husband is a much more rational thinker. He was sure it was drool.” Drool with face, nose, and eyes staring into very the depths of your soul? No sir, you are wrong. Luckily for everyone involved, there was an even funnier reason.

“Well, this morning I go to investigate a bit further. It turns out my husband just forgot to put the mattress protector on when he changed the sheets,” she wrote, showing a picture of the mattress pad with an adorable photo of a baby that most definitely was not a ghost.

The photos and story have now gone wildly viral, mostly because we can all see ourselves in this mom. Cibuls tells Scary Mommy she agrees, saying, “I feel like that’s why so many people liked it. It’s so relatable.” Not only that, her husband just casually leaving the sticker on like it’s no biggie because it’ll be covered with a sheet is peak dad.

Of course, who knew the baby head would be so perfectly positioned right next to her sleeping baby and that the monitor’s light would make the entire situation peak creepiness, but the rest of us clearly benefitted from all of it. “I could kill him,” she ended her post. We feel you, lady friend.
