Aniston will be watching the Emmys from her home again this year

Jennifer Aniston appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to chat about what’s happening in her life, the new season of The Morning Show, and also to tell the host she would not be attending this Sunday’s Emmy Awards because, you know, there’s still a pandemic happening.

Aniston explained that she will be skipping the show this year even though Friends: The Reunion that she was a part of received multiple nominations. “No, I will not be going,” she said. “This is still a big step for me just to be here [on the talk show]. It’s just baby steps.”

Aniston said she believes Ben Winston, the director and producer of the Friends reunion, will be attending on behalf of the cast.

Earlier this year, Aniston addressed her decision to cut ties with people who chose not to get vaccinated or take the pandemic seriously. She told InStyle that, “it’s a real shame” there are people living through a virus that’s killed 4.5 million people globally that choose not to receive a vaccine that would slow its spread. She also addressed those who are “anti-vaxxers” and “just don’t listen to the facts.”

“I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose (whether … they had been vaccinated), and it was unfortunate,” Aniston said. “I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day.”

She also revealed she’s lost a few relationships because of the opposing stance on the COVID-19 vaccine, saying, “everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” but noting that the entire situation is “tricky.” “A lot of opinions don’t feel based in anything except fear or propaganda,” she said.

“I’ve been in the house a lot,” she told Kimmel. “I went from the Sony Studios to shoot ‘The Morning Show,’ back to my house,” she said. Her small circle since the pandemic includes Kimmel himself, telling viewers she’s been to his home in Los Angeles and has visited the Bateman household and her BFF Courteney Cox. “It was kind of this little bubble of friends. Thank God I love all of you so much,” she joked.

While many will be watching the Emmys this weekend, including Aniston from home, she’ll likely be cheering on Friends: The Reunion and their four noms, including outstanding lighting design/lighting direction for a variety special, outstanding variety special, outstanding production design and outstanding directing for a variety special.
