Kevin Smith looks healthy and happy after lifestyle changes inspired by his daughter

Every parent’s worst nightmare is not being there for their kids. For actor and filmmaker Kevin Smith, that came dangerously close to becoming a reality — in February, he revealed he had suffered a near-fatal heart attack, and vowed to change his life for the better.

Now, six months later, Smith just revealed his 51-pound weight loss, and can I just say hot damn?! He looks amazing. I’ll wait while you get out all your wolf whistles. But also? Yay for his health above all things.

In the caption accompanying those photos, Smith revealed that he used Weight Watchers to learn about better portion control.

“This @weightwatchers Ambassador is thrilled to announce that I’VE LOST 51 POUNDS!” he wrote. “Six months ago from right now, I was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack I’d had the night before. When I went to my Doctor a week later, she told me ‘The best thing you can do for yourself now is to lose 50 pounds.’ Half a year later, I can report that I followed Doctor’s orders: I started at 256 and now I weigh 205. This is the lightest I’ve been since high school! My hope now is I can slowly lose another 10 with #weightwatchers and get down to my birth weight of 195! But for now, I’m ecstatic to have reached this chunky milestone!”

But that wasn’t the only way he turned his life — and his health — around. Inspired by his vegan daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, he revealed he’s been eating a completely plant-based diet for those six months. Based on how he’s looking now, it’s working for him.

“And I also wanna thank my kid @harleyquinnsmith – the little vegan astronaut who explored this meatless/milkless galaxy ahead of me, leading by example,” he wrote. “Since I never wanted to see the inside of a hospital ever again, I simply copied the Kid. So this wasn’t a diet: these results came from a total lifestyle change of eating solely plant-based foods (which is tough because I hate vegetables).”

Smith’s daughter, who performs with the band The Tenth, is an animal lover and longtime vegan.

Most of all, though, she’s clearly a treasured part of Smith’s life, and we’re glad she was able to help him make this change.
