Kim Kardashian West’s new shapewear line comes in sizes XXS to 4XL

Days after launching her new body foundation line, Kim Kardashian West has cranked out another product: shapewear. On June 25, 2019 Kardashian launched her bespoke shapewear line Kimono and the world has leaned in with a collective, “we’re listening.” Currently, shapewear is synonymous with Spanx, but Kardashian’s new collection aims to fill the inclusivity void in the shapewear world by making products in nine different shades and in sizes XXS-4XL.

“Finally I can share with you guys this project that I have been developing for the last year,” Kardashian tweeted. “I’ve been passionate about this for 15 years. Kimono is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work.”

Kim said she decided to launch the brand after years of struggling to find shapewear that matched her skin color and came in the unique shapes she needed.

Kimono will even have a pair of underwear made exclusively for dresses with a single thigh-high slit on one side.

Even Chrissy Teigen weighed in on the leg-slit shapewear, admitting that she — like Kim — would cut her Spanx to fit the dress.

The struggle is extremely real and Kardashian’s definitely hitting on an issue so many women have. How many of you have done that exact same thing? Having shapewear already cut to fit those sexy leg slits would be amazing.

The detail, color, and size diversity of the line is great, but many online pointed out that Kim mostly cast models with similar body types in the ads, even though Kardashian claims to offer shapewear in sizes XXS to 4XL.

“Show us girls with realistic bodies wearing this…then I will be impressed,” someone wrote on Twitter.

To be fair, only three photos from the collection exist, so we’ll give Kardashian the benefit of the doubt and see what other promo images she rolls out eventually once the items are actually for sale.

Kardashian is also under fire for naming her shapewear collection Kimono, which is the name of a traditional Japanese robe, and it’s especially exhausting as the Kardashians continually appropriate other cultures and seem to escape unscathed each time. Some have pointed out that they could get behind the brand if it weren’t for the culturally tone-deaf name and if only she’d just called the line “KKW Shapewear.”

The real draw here and what makes the line special is the size inclusivity. For comparison, Spanx’s best-selling mid-thigh short comes in sizes XS to 3X, which means Kardashian really is offering sizes that the leading shapewear brand doesn’t. Also, Spanx only offers three colors: nude, black, and white.

No word on when the collection drops, the brand only states that it is “coming soon,” so if this is the size-inclusive shapewear brand you need in your life, sign up for the waitlist now.
