Liam Hemsworth Files For Divorce From Miley Cyrus
Liam Hemsworth has gone forward with divorce filings shortly after the couple announced their separation
After nearly a decade together, one of which was spent as husband and wife, Liam Hemsworth has decided to pull the plug on his marriage to Miley Cyrus. According to TMZ, Hemsworth (via his lawyer Laura Wasser, the go-to divorce lawyer to the stars) filed for divorce.
Interestingly, the divorce docs do not state a “date of separation,” and although the couple announced their separation on August 10, 2019, TMZ has photos of Hemsworth without his ring as early as June. TMZ adds that the couple had a prenup and Hemsworth is not asking for spousal support.
It was Cyrus’s rep who first announced the split and at the time, the rep stated that the two were “ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, [and that] they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”
Cyrus later dropped a new song “Slide Away” which alluded to the breakup. In the song, she blames “whiskey and pills” and sings: “Move on, we’re not 17/I’m not who I used to be/You say that everything changed/You’re right, we’re grown now.”
For his part, Hemsworth went directly to Instagram to address their relationship and wrote: “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
Since the breakup, sources have speculated on the status of the relationship. People even alleged that the two would inevitably find their way back to one another, but Hemsworth’s divorce paperwork feels pretty final.
Right after Cyrus’s reps announced the split, Cyrus was spotted kissing The Hills star Kaitlynn Carter in Italy and the two were seen together in Los Angeles this week as well. Meanwhile, Hemsworth has been staying in his native Australia with his brothers.
Cyrus and Hemsworth met in 2009 as teenagers on the set of The Last Song. They dated off and on until Hemsworth got down on one knee in 2012. They briefly called off the engagement but got back together in 2015, and finally — tied the knot at the end of 2018 in an intimate wedding Nashville. Here’s to hoping they find happiness.
