Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are about to become first-time parents

This is the moment we’ve been preparing for since like, 2016, or at least that’s how long it feels since the Duchess of Sussex, aka, Meghan Markle, and husband Prince Harry shared with the world that they were expecting their first royal baby. Buckingham Palace released a statement this morning that Her Royal Highness is officially super close to becoming a momma.

The statement reads, “The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon.”

YOU GUYS.

So far, the couple has been extremely tight-lipped on baby details and by all accounts, they have zero plans to parade their tiny prince or princess outside the hospital within hours of Markle giving birth, which is typically how it’s gone for past royal moms. They released a statement last month letting everyone know their intentions in the most polite and British way possible. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family,” it reads.

Both Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, have completed the time-honored tradition of marching out onto the hospital steps (probably while wearing a pad the size of a mattress) to let the press and entire world get a peek of the newest royal.

Meghan’s clearly not having that and we’re extremely here for it.

The thing is, it’s not at all fair to a mother who’s just gone through labor or a c-section to then have to present herself to the world, gracious and smiling, as though she’s not in immense pain and dying to lie down and snuggle her baby. We admire the living heck out of Kate for always doing her royal duty with a perfect blow-out, stunning dress and high heels (honestly, how?!), but for the love, let these women freaking recover before we all pounce. As much as we’re dying to see the newest royal tot (and to find out if they got Harry’s red hair, PLEASE) we’re totally with them on wanting to take a beat as a new family before sharing it all with everyone.

Happily, according to People, we won’t need to wait very long to see Meghan and Harry’s first little one. The couple will participate in a royal family photo session within a few days of the baby’s arrival on the grounds of Windsor Castle. That’s great to hear, because as much as we want them to have their privacy, we’re also very excited to get the first look at this sweet little one.

Labor vibes, Meghan. We can’t wait for the next update!
