Congrats, Ladies! Men Say Sexism Doesn’t Exist Anymore

According to a new survey, over half of American men think that “obstacles that made it harder for women to get ahead are largely gone”

Woo hoo, ladies!! Man, oh man, do we have some good news for you. A Pew Research Center poll released last week found that 56% of American men believe sexism is over. That’s right, sexism is done dealt with. It has gone the way of the dodo bird. The Bouncer of Equality told sexism, “Hey man, you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.” This is amazing news for women. And who knew? Men. But don’t they always?

Just as white people know that racism is over, men are sure that us gals have the same opportunities they do. In fact, this man was kind enough to explain part of the problem to this nice lady on Twitter just the other day:

Argh! If only we were better listeners!

Now, it’s true that women aren’t represented in some professions to the same degree that men are, but that’s not about sexism, that’s about us. As Breitbart News explained in July, “There’s no hiring bias against women in tech, they just suck at interviews.” Um, ok, ladies? How about you learn how to answer questions about your experience and knowledge base first, then complain. Besides, did you ever stop to think about the fact that the two women who work at your local start-up get to have a bathroom all to themselves while the other seventy men who work there have to share one? Access to high-paying jobs is all well and good, but so is a bathroom stall that you can claim as your own and decorate as you wish. It won’t pay your rent, but you also won’t need to pay rent if you put a cot in there. So…silver lining, women-folk!

Now, the interesting thing about this poll is that, surprisingly, women tended to disagree with men on this point. In fact, 63% of women surveyed think that sexism is still a problem. That’s sad. If only the majority of women would listen to the majority of men, they wouldn’t have to be so upset all the time. Sure, women still don’t earn as much as men, we don’t have paid parental leave, men threaten to rape us if they disagree with our opinions on the internet, we are still viewed as bodies first and people second, and powerful men want to take away our control over our uteruses, but at least we have a female candidate for President! And sure, the other major party candidate is a man with a long history of objectifying and demeaning women, but hey…at least we still have mostly-empty bathrooms to look forward to.
