The actress talks about how happy she is to become a parent
After weeks of speculation with no official word, actress Mindy Kaling has finally confirmed that she is indeed pregnant, and the internet is so freaking excited.
She’s excited too, of course.
Rumors swirled last month that The Mindy Project star was expecting, but they were just that — rumors. Even so, people were extremely pumped at even a shadow of a possibility that their might be a mini Mindy on the way.
But now, it’s official. And we’re squealing.
In an interview with Willie Geist on Sunday TODAY set to air September 10th, Kaling reveals that she’s “really excited” about impending motherhood.
“It’s so unknown to me. I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life and this is one where I’m just like, ‘OK! It’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling,” she shares.
Not sure “fun” is how every mom would describe that feeling, but we’re thrilled Kaling is sounding relatively chill about the inevitable (huge) changes coming up. And she’s totally looking on the bright side about the new privileges those changes will afford her.
“As you know, it’s so easy to criticize parenting until you’re a parent. So one of the nice things about becoming a parent is that I’ll be able to openly criticize other parenting,” she quips.
We love this. Kaling is about to earn her Mom Badge and with it, the ability to speak from experience.
She also paid tribute to her own mom, who passed away of cancer in 2012. “She just loved us and really wanted us to be happy, no matter what we did,” she says. “My career choice was not something she was familiar with, and she was just so supportive of that, and if I can give that to my child – just that open-mindedness – I’d be so happy.”
The internet is as excited about Kaling’s baby news as she is with Twitter blowing up with fan reactions.
One notable thing missing from the interview is any mention of the father of Kaling’s child. A source recently told People that she “just started telling her friends that she’s pregnant, but she’s not telling anyone — not even close friends — who the father is.”
And good for her. It’s absolutely no one’s business who the father is and if she doesn’t want to share that fact, no one should be asking.
We have no doubt Mindy will nail parenthood and eagerly offer ourselves up as her future mom BFFs.
