A mom tries suggesting her babysitter should be satisfied with not being paid for an 8-hour day of work

If you have a great babysitter, you treasure them above basically all other things. After all, when you’ve got a person you trust to watch your kids so you can get some time to yourself or go to work without worry, that sitter is worth their weight in gold.

Or in “ice cream and fun” as one horrible mother suggested in a set of jaw-dropping viral texts.

Reddit user VortexThing shared an infuriating string of texts between their sister and a woman the sister did some babysitting for. After doing her job (that should equal actual dollars in her pocket, nothing less) she texted the mom asking for payment. And this happened.

Wow. Is your blood pressure already through the roof? The sitter very reasonably expects to be paid and this lunatic thinks time spent with her little angels is payment enough? “I wasn’t aware payment was involved. You got free ice cream and a day of fun…I’m sorry for the misinterpretation.” IS SHE OUT OF HER MIND?

Luckily, the sitter kept receipts. She sent the screenshot of their prior agreement to $16 an hour.

We say “luckily” because this complete wench seems to think that because she deleted her texts, the sitter must now have no record of her agreeing to pay $16 an hour. Not ice cream and a good time with her little rascals.

Then, the mom suggests the sitter is “stuck up.” For not wanting to work for free. This is completely bonkers.

Because her kids are “easy” this mom honestly seems to think that paying her sitter the agreed upon rate is not necessary. Like, seriously?

The sitter even tries compromising, asking for $100 instead of the $128 she earned. Annnd this is how it ended.

Of course, the comments were full of posters suggesting the babysitter take the woman to small claims court, a giant pain in the butt for sure, but what else could she do? After the mom blocked her number, the sitter was left with very little recourse to get the money she rightfully earned.

In a new post, the original poster explained that her sister is doing all she can to hold this terrible woman accountable. She started off by contacting the husband. “Yesterday, we decided to call the husband on his personal phone. It took a few tries to get through to him, but he eventually picked up and was quite sheepish about the whole thing. Basically, the conversation said something to the effect of ‘yeah, I’ll talk to her about it.’ Not very promising but he said he’d get back to us as soon as he could.”

Naturally, he didn’t. He left the sitter’s subsequent texts on read. She texted once more to let him know that she knows he’s seeing their messages — and that now she’ll be forced to take further action. “..we have decided we will be using a Small Claims Court if you do not return us the $128 in cash that you rightfully owe. You will have to go through legal fees and court proceedings and it will certainly cost you more than what you owe us. So, as soon as you and your wife stop acting like children and face the people you owe money to in person, we may be able to have a reasonable discussion,” they wrote.

Welp. That got things moving.

“Within thirty minutes, my sister was ‘unblocked’ from the mother’s phone and the cash is set to return today at 2 pm. We’ll see how it goes, but my guess is these parents are done scheming people. I have informed my sister that she should do her best to publicly shit-smear them on our local Facebook group, NextDoor (as someone recommended), and someone also suggested doing a one-star Google review of her house which we plan to do,” they write.

It’s our sincere hope that no babysitter ever goes near this evil woman again — thank heavens for the internet.
