Prince William is officially his little brother’s best man
Those of us who are counting down to May 19 with a serious case of Royal Wedding fever already saw this wonderful news coming, like, a thousand miles away. I mean, seriously. Anyone shocked by this doesn’t know anything about the adorably close-knit royal brothers and they can’t sit with us.
But as of today, Kensington Palace made it official: Prince William will serve as his baby brother Prince Harry’s best man when he ties the knot with literal angel Meghan Markle next month.
The Palace tweeted the announcement, as it tends to do with most modern news about the family. The announcement was made alongside some super cute photos showing the precious, adorable, brotherly relationship Will and Harry have always had and UGH, my heart.
“Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle,” the royal statement read. “The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19. Prince Harry served as best man to The Duke of Cambridge at his wedding to Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011.”
The follow-up tweet announcing that Will had accepted this role came with an absolutely perfect throwback pic of the two princes as young boys. Buckle in for this one, royal fam fans. It’s a cuteness wallop.
There was also a throwback pic of the brothers together when Harry was Will’s best man in 2011. We knew this news was coming, but we didn’t expect the palace to release it so delightfully.
You don’t have to be a superfan of the royals to see that Will and Harry have a very close bond. In a January interview, Will speculated that losing their mom, Princess Diana, at a young age, brought them closer together.
“Our relationship is closer than it’s been because of the situation we’ve been through,” he said. “Losing our mother at a young age, it’s helped us travel through that difficult patch together. You’re like-minded. You go through similar things — it’s a bond, and it’s something you know you’ve tackled together and come out better for it.”
He added, “That’s the thing about being a best mate, inevitably one of you is sometimes on an up, while the other is on a down. You’re always there for each other and repaying that favor.”
Seriously, how sweet are they? Diana would be proud, and we can’t wait to see these two standing up together on Harry’s big day.
