Did Emily Cross The Line With Her Age-Shaming Comment on 'RHOC'?

On this week’s episode of ‘RHOC,’ Emily Simpson called her ‘Housewives’ cast-mates ‘senior citizens’

Real Housewives of Orange County‘s Emily Simpson has had quite the season. Amidst the Braunwyn Windham-Burke versus Gina Kirschenheiter drama and the Kelly Dodd versus Vicki Gunvalson drama and the Tamra Judge versus, well, everyone drama (which we’re sure to see unfold during the highly anticipated reunion), Emily has, comparatively, remained drama-free among the women. Sure, she had a small spat with her show BFF, Gina, and she seemed to have a minor argument with Tamra; but compared to the rest of the women’s drama, Emily has seemingly risen above. That is, until we reached this episode, during which viewers took issue with her age-shaming comments toward the other women.

Season 14 of RHOC has been a rollercoaster for Emily. At the start of the season, we see her open up about her weight gain and body image struggles, and we find out about halfway through the season that not even her own husband supports her weight loss journey. While she makes it clear this journey is hard for her, viewers have rallied for her, praised her and remained virtually by her side — save for this week’s episode.

While the women are on vacation in Key West, Florida, Emily not only reveals she used to date a drug dealer who had a boat and lots of jet skis(!), but she’s also seen with Kelly talking smack about Vicki, basically saying that “instead of the senior girls in high school, it’s senior citizens who are mad at me.”

And did we mention she and Kelly are really not much younger than the older women on the trip? Emily is 43 and Kelly is 44, while Vicki is 57, Shannon is 55, and Tamra is 52.

For someone who has been vocally against body shaming, is it right for Emily to age-shame her not-much-older cast members? Not only that, should Emily really alienate the Real Housewives viewers who are, on average, 43 years old?

“Cut the old women jokes out,” another Twitter user live-tweeted during tonight’s episode. “You are alienating an important community that you need for the show!”

And these two RHOC viewers are not alone. Plenty of others were vocally against the age-shaming.

Though, some simply found Emily’s one-liners entertaining.

Now we want to know: How will the women react to the Emily’s comments? We don’t have to wait much longer for the dramatic reunion to come. According to reunion host Andy Cohen, the reunion will feature “a meltdown to end all meltdowns” — and we, for one, can’t wait to watch it.
