Mom spends tax refund on a year’s worth of rent

If you got a year’s worth of rent back as a tax refund, what would you do with it?

Many of us might decide to actually splurge on something we’ve been wanting: a vacation, that fancy bag we’ve been eyeing, or a gift we wouldn’t normally buy our child. Those would all be fine choice, you should treat yourself every once in a while. But can you imagine how great it would feel to just get your rent out of the way for a year? To not even have to think about it?

One mom decided it would be glorious. So she wrote a check with her tax return. To her landlord.

“I got back $5600 on my taxes,” writes Christina Knaack. “Instead of buying my kids the latest Jordans or fancy electronics I paid my rent for the YEAR.”

The post was shared nearly 100,000 times in one day. There were many messages of solidarity from other single moms:

I know what its like to be a single mom i did it from 2009-2016 . i praise this woman for what she did !!! UR AWSOME !!!!

Good for you. I also was a single mom and I know how difficult to make that monthly rent. God bless.

I paid off my fridge and am getting a car we don’t have one and walk everywhere I’m a single Mom of 4. Proud of you!

Christina explained a little more in her post: “I’m a single mom and I do it all buy [sic] myself on a minimum wage job. I know that a roof over my kids head is what’s important. My kids don’t want for anything because my priorities are straight. And this also means I will have that extra 450 a month to do things with my kids.”

Smart. Good job, mama.
