Trump Pulled His Healthcare Bill And Twitter Had A Field Day
Twitter had a field day with Trump and the GOP’s failed healthcare bill
If you look up the term “schadenfreude” in the dictionary, we’re pretty sure it just lists a whole bunch of tweets mocking President Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan, and the GOP as a whole for yesterday’s crushing defeat of the AHCA bill.
Before Friday’s aborted vote, the Republicans’ replacement for Obamacare had been pilloried in the press, and had a 17% approval rating, according to CNN. Even lower than the President’s! But despite zero support from House Democrats and not all that much more from their own party, Ryan and Trump were determined to ram it through.
Until they decided not to carry it to term after all.
Many mocked Trump’s inability to get a deal done.
Others targeted Paul Ryan.
Some went after the GOP’s typical deluded spin.
One Senator dropped the mic on his political foes.
Ryan himself suggested that Obamacare is “the law of the land” and that we’re going to be stuck with it “for a while.”
Aw. That’s a shame.
It was a big victory for Democrats, but more than that, it was a victory for the millions of people who won’t lose their coverage under the Republicans’ universally-panned plan.
It’s no wonder some tweeters turned to song and dance to express their glee.
You’d think, after spending the better part of Obama’s two terms pledging to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and with complete control of Congress, the Republicans could muster a stronger effort.
But they didn’t. And now, after pulling their doomed healthcare bill before it could be voted down, it will be a while before they try again.
