Maintaining a healthy vaginal pH balance is important for your health. When your pH balance is off, you may experience vaginal irritation or vaginal discharge. Many things can cause an imbalance in your vagina, but have no fear, Madge the Vag is here. Subscribe to Scary Mommy: https://www.youtube.com/user/ScaryMom… Madge the Vag sits down with gynecologist, Dr. Ruth Tessler, to discover what makes a happy and healthy vaginal ecosystem. Dr. Tessler explains “The ecosystem in your vagina is different from everybody else’s vagina, but it’s usually acidic because lactobacilli, which is a good bacteria eat off the glycogen, and change into lactic acid, and you have basically an acidic vagina. And that’s a happy vagina.” Woah. That’s a lot to take in. So, how do you know if your balance is off? Don’t worry, your vagina will let you know. You may experience abnormal discharge, vaginal odor or vaginal irritation. Yikes. Okay, so we know when happens when your vagina’s pH balance is off, but what causes it? Antibiotics, underwear, certain types of birth control and sex can change the acid levels in your vagina. In order to avoid upsetting her, wear cotton underwear and even go commando at night! Use only unscented soaps on your entire body, not just vagina. Even consider taking a vaginal probiotic. It’s a vitamin for your vag. A vag vitamin. A vagitamin! Until next time, stay balanced! Your vagina depends on it! More on Madge the Vag: Madge the Vag is a quirky mom on a mission to spread (literally) the word on everything vagina. She may have a 1950s wardrobe, but approaches women’s vaginal health in a refreshing way that is very today. Madge highlights a taboo topic or challenging issue many women face but may be afraid to talk about. She interviews experts on a range of topics like public hair, yeast infections and sex.
