These pre-sliced, perfectly ripe avocado slices are a must-try

Avocados are a universally beloved fruit, to be sure. They’re also universally frustrating — there is a very small, very specific window of time you have to peel and enjoy a perfectly ripe avocado before it’s brown mush. And if you do it too early? Hard as a green rock.

Luckily, fruit company Welch’s sees our frustrations and raises us the answer to our avocado aggravations.

Behold: frozen avocados. Peeled and bagged at the height of their ripeness.

I know what you’re thinking — really? Another peeled and plastic-bagged fruit? And I get it, I really do. Fresh produce is amazing, yadda yadda yadda. But if you love tossing a few avocado slices in your morning smoothie, or your lunch, or just want, like, a few slices for your toast (or to pop in your mouth, no judgment), these babies are where it’s at.

No more sacrificing a whole avocado for just a few slices. No more “saving half” in the fridge only to have it turn brown and mushy two minutes later.

“Welch’s Frozen Avocados are ripe-frozen so that they are always ready right when you need them,” Welch’s website says. “So convenient- not sliced, not diced, just perfectly hand-chunks and so versatile, they can be used in a variety of recipes like Poke bowls, dressings, sandwiches even desserts! They are also sodium and cholesterol free, a source of fiber and just 50 calories per serving.”

And yes, adding more plastic to earth’s overall waste is a valid reason to avoid purchasing this item. And yes, people are definitely lazy. But — much like the heated debate over plastic straws — what about people with disabilities that prevent them from being able to easily peel and core an avocado? Something like this allows them to enjoy them without a big hassle.

Not every issue is right vs. wrong, black vs. white. There are many green –er, grey — areas here. If nothing else, Welch’s avocado slices keep us all safe by preventing Avocado Hand.
