Yes, I’m THAT Mom Who’s a Little Extra, And I’m Not Sorry ‘Bout It

You know that one mom who volunteers to be Room Parent every year, sends her signature cookies to celebrate every accomplishment, and cooks a full-on breakfast every morning?

It’s me.

Yep. I’m her. I admit to turning my home into a seasonal extravaganza for every holiday. I confess to having individual Pinterest boards for each one of my kids’ birthday parties. And I can confirm that I will overhaul my dining room decor like other people cue up a Netflix binge.

If you’re a little over-the-top too and ready to be out and proud, allow me to be your guide to unapologetic extra-ness!

It’s Called Balance (Our Version Of It, Anyway)

We may go all-in on every task we tackle, but we also know when and how to take a smart shortcut. For example, when we dive into a room redo, we know that choosing the most transformative force in the space — the paint color — requires expert input. This is where the Sherwin-Williams® ColorSnap® Color ID Quiz comes in. It’s a super fun quiz for narrowing down the color palette that best suits your personality and vision.

For those of us who love a color-coded activity calendar and have never met a baking project we couldn’t handle, the Enthusiast palette is right up our alley. It’s the perfect collection of colors to level-up your space. The colors are fresh without being overly trendy, and they all complement one another so they’ll easily flow into the next space you decide to refresh, as long as you stay within that palette. The best part is, Sherwin-Williams has expertly curated the palette so you don’t have to devote hours (and sections of your walls) to deciding which white pairs best with an olive wall. (It’s Westhighland White SW 7566.)

We DIY (Almost) Everything

There’s nothing we love more than a room refresh, but we also know our decorating limits. For me, it’s accessorizing with fake flowers instead of fresh. Fresh flowers are great, but they wilt, and wilty just doesn’t fit the mood I’m trying to create. The way I look at it, if you find a fake arrangement that looks great, you can use it again and again. And no watering or petal cleanup means you have extra time for being extra elsewhere.

For example, you found some dining room chairs in a bold color you’re in love with. You want your walls to complement them so they pop, right? Just use the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® Visualizer App to upload your photo and virtually preview different wall colors before you break out the brushes. We’re all about trying new things, but we’re also efficient with our time.

No Apologies For Our Enthusiasm

Cutting carrots into cute shapes for our kids’ bento box lunches is never meant to show off. Au contraire! We’re just trying to make every day a little more special. As an Enthusiast, I love going all in – whether that means staying up all night to sew the perfect Halloween costume or switching up my home’s decor for every change of season.

More Really Is Better

Speaking of doing the absolute most, there’s nothing wrong with using two colors where someone else would normally use one. You want cream-colored walls in your dining room? Cool, do you. I prefer a little more contrast to really make a room feel new. Sometimes living life to the fullest looks like Westhighland White SW 7566 on the top of the walls and Relentless Olive SW 6425 on the bottom.

Just Do You, Mom

When I make mac and cheese and use 50 dollars worth of cheese (oops!), or when I willingly take on a project that involves copious amounts of glitter, it’s never about trying to outdo anyone else. As moms who are a little extra, sometimes our motives are questioned. Are we making themed homemade desserts just to post to the ‘gram? Are we swapping out our seasonal throw pillows just to flex at the next playdate? Absolutely not. We do the things we do because we genuinely love doing them. This is just us being our full, authentic selves. And shouldn’t we all be doing that?

You’re your own person. So head over to take the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® Color ID Quiz and tackle that room refresh with unapologetic extra-ness. And be sure to post your finished space online with tag #SWColorLove!

From trying to buying to loving, at Sherwin-Williams, you’ll always get your color, your way.
