NYT Uncovers New Sexual Misconduct Claim Against Brett Kavanaugh
The new allegation against the Supreme Court Justice sounds like something we’ve heard before
Two New York Times reporters have been hard at work on an upcoming book, The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation. And while they’ve been at it, they’ve uncovered some new unsettling allegations against the man who has already been accused of sexual assault in the past.
The reporters say the incident happened at a party during Kavanaugh’s time at Yale. In an op-ed for the Times, Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly detailed the allegations, as described by one of the Supreme Court Justice’s classmates, Max Stier. Stier told the reporters he saw Kavanaugh take his pants down while his friends pushed his penis into the hands of a female student.
The reporters say Stier reported his account to senators and the FBI but it was never investigated, even though during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, an investigation seemed more than necessary given Christine Blasey-Ford’s powerful testimony against him. The reporters in this case also said they “corroborated the story with two officials who have communicated with” Stier.
But if it all sounds like something we’ve heard before, that’s because it is. Last year, a woman named Deborah Ramirez had a strikingly similar account to what we’re hearing about now. Ramirez was a classmate of Kavanaugh’s who told The New Yorker that she was at a party playing a drinking game when Kavanaugh pulled down his pants and pushed his penis into her while she shoved him away. Those allegations were brought just after Christine Blasey Ford came forward with her allegations about Kavanaugh pinning her down on a bed and assaulting her.
While researching their book, the reporters did a deep dive into Kavanaugh’s prep school days, as well as his time at Yale, which led them to further investigate both Blasey-Ford’s and Ramirez’s claims. They say that have talked to at least seven people who heard about Ramirez’s account of what happened at the party “long before Mr. Kavanaugh was a federal judge.” Among them are two former Yale students who heard about the incident just days after it was said to have taken place.
At this point, there has been no shortage of allegations against Kavanaugh. But isn’t one enough?
Still, while many people are angered and concerned about the fact that yet another very unsettling claim is out there against someone in such a powerful position, the President tweeted his support for the Supreme Court Justice. Democrats are calling for a thorough investigation of the allegations.
