What are best friends even for if not tricking you into wearing a Halloween costume to a formal event?

Like many parties that take place in churches, a baby’s christening doesn’t tend to be the most lit. But who knew there was an easy way to spice up the event?

One man on Reddit told his best friend that his son’s christening was going to be a costume party. He thought his friend understood it was a joke… until he showed up in costume. The photo evidence was, of course, posted online, and we can’t get enough of it.

“Three weeks before the party we were hanging out at my place and at some point out of the blue I said: ‘by the way the christening party is gonna be different.. It will be a costume party!'” the Reddit user, who goes by Surgas, wrote. “It came quite sudden and I did expect the usual -shut up you twat!- but he just looked at me though a bit suspicious.”

Surgas continued, “I had an Ipad in my lap and I started to search for cool costumes. We had some great laughs and talked about going as Rocksteady and Bebob. At this point I was actually sure he had figured out the scam but hey, we had fun.. He went home and I did not think more of it.”

Until the day of the christening, when best friend showed up in a full knight ensemble, complete with chain mail.

“I was literally rolling around the floor laughing when he entered the church!” Surgas wrote.

The best part? The friend’s girlfriend, who was so embarrassed she refused to show her face in any photos and, according to Surgas, kept “asking him what time they should be going home.”

It’s an embarrassing gaffe, sure, but no harm, no foul. Apparently Surgas’ mom even thought he was some kind of entertainment hired for the day, so he posed for some photos.

Costume christenings may not catch on, but we can at least appreciate the hilariousness of this one.
