Kissing Your Kids On The Lips Isn't Weird, So Stop Acting Like It Is

David Beckham shared a photo of him and his little girl sharing a peck on the lips and of course, the internet got weird about it

David Beckham is once again on the receiving end of backlash for kissing his seven-year-old daughter Harper on the lips.

Because the world is a never-ending trash fire and people are weird AF.

Beckham and Harper were skating together recently when they pecked on the lips for what looks like a selfie taken by Daddy. Um, it’s freaking precious.

But of course, the internet being the terrible cesspool that it is, meant that the innocent image was torn apart by those who feel that a parent and child kissing on the lips is somehow not ok. “I feel like a kiss on the cheek is better than that on the lips. The lips is just weird,” one remarked. Another said it was “not appropriate” and many weighed in to call it “wrong.” One very helpful parenting expert said, “Not on lips. Cheeks is ok.”

Ah, ok. Now that a random weirdo on Instagram has decreed it, we’re sure Becks is taking it under advisement.

This isn’t the first time the British football star (and insanely hot super-dad) has been admonished by internet trolls for showing his little girl some affection. In the summer of 2017, he caught heat for posting this adorable snapshot of the father-daughter pair. What nerve, right? A parent loving their child and snuggling them close. Gross.

Harper’s momma, Victoria, also kisses her daughter on the lips, so clearly, this is a thing their family is cool with and does on the regular.

My son is nine. He still delights in my pecking him on the lips and his little lips still feel like the puffy, adorable, baby lips I used to kiss over and over when he was tiny, so as long as he allows my brief lip kisses, I will keep giving them. It isn’t weird. It’s innocent and sweet and I’m positive that when the time comes that he feels a bit squicky about it, either he will say so or I will sense it and we’ll stop. So please don’t shit on parents who choose to show this form of affection to their kids. It’s a short season that we get to be this close with them and there’s absolutely nothing wrong or gross about it.

If anyone does think it’s gross, here’s a novel thought — don’t do it.
